Season: Four
Episode: The Light
Written by: James Phillips
Directed by: Peter F. Woeste
Review by: Nike
Storyline: After being exposed to a mysterious,
energy-emitting machine while on a mission with SG-5 ,
Daniel's behaviour becomes erratic, eventually
leading to a near-suicide attempt. Sent to
investigate, Carter and O'Neill also become affected
by 'The Light', leading to violent behaviour on return
to Earth. As Daniel slips into a coma, SG-1 must
return to the planet to save his life and stop their
own 'withdrawal'; but with no way of knowing how to
combat the light's effects. Their only chance may lie
with a young boy, living alone in the castle
containing the source of the Light.
Shippy Moment: (Raw Nerves) While there are no
specifically shippy moments during the episode,
Daniel's illness provides an opportunity to show some
serious emotional stress on Janet's part. Outwardly
cool for most of the episode, the Doctor's fraying
nerves are nevertheless obvious. Her immediate, quiet
concern as Daniel falls ill, her brisk but panicked
professionalism as he flatlines, and, in particular,
her reaction to O'Neill's outburst in the infirmary.
Though she still shows a little sympathy towards him,
as she often does when a member of his team is ill
(eg. Entity), she is calm, cool and tightly controlled
- telling him in a firm yet strained voice to calm
down, or she will have him removed from her infirmary.
