When I look into your eyes,
I can see how much I love you,
And it makes me realize.
When I look into your eyes,
I see all my dreams come true,
When I look into your eyes.

~~Firehouse, "When I Look Into Your Eyes"

He watched in awe as she walked down the aisle, a vision in crème and white. The beaded dress outlined her slim figure to perfection, her shoulders left bare by the strapless bodice. She stood tall and proud, breathtakingly beautiful on the arm of a smiling General Hammond.

She literally was the most beautiful creature he'd ever seen.

A veil covered her face, blocking her eyes from his, but he knew from the slight tilt of her head that her eyes, beneath the old-fashioned lace, were locked on him.

He swallowed hard as he sensed her gaze, his own riveted to the lace covering the face he loved more than life itself.

It had been such a long, hard road they'd traveled. Ever since she'd entered his life nearly ten years ago, he'd felt a connection to her. A connection that time, distance, ascension, and even the massive attack by Anubis on Earth itself could not sever. He had protected her with his own life, with everything in him; just as she had protected him, and all of SG-1, with her medical knowledge, stubbornness and devotion to her friends and family.

Once Anubis had been defeated, she had been his rock in the months that followed. The battle had been long, hard and casualty filled for both Earth and its allies. It had been gritty and brutal, with desperate measures taken in many, horrifying cases. While SG-1 had been proven justified in their actions, in the end, saving Earth; for him, the repercussions of things he had done and said, acts that horrified him now to remember, were forever burned on his brain.

She had been the one to hold him when he would wake from a nightmare as he lay recovering from battle wounds. She would stroke his brow, allow him to talk about the terror and fear in broken words and phrases. She passed no judgment but listened, and more importantly, held onto him, allowing him to cry, to feel, to accept.

It had not been easy, falling in love with her every minute of every hour, each moment bringing something more to love about her.

He had not wanted to fall so hard or so fast again. He bore the scars not only of the final battle, but of lost loves, past hurts, new fears that he might never forgive himself for what war had forced him to do. He had learned the hard way that loving someone meant more pain, in the end, because you, or at least he, usually lost them. He had gone through it once with Sha're, he had been terrified to think about putting himself at risk of that again.

Her own demons had been brutal as well. Her quiet strength held a wealth of pain of her own, things she had been forced to do, to face, to endure, that were just as horrifying as his own. Her own past was far from pain and hurt as well, making her just as weary of falling in love again.

However, he had not counted on the fact that she had decided to look towards the future, building on the past instead of being crippled by it.

With her laughter and smiles, her gentle understanding and support and later, her sweet, intoxicating kisses and whispered words on the night breeze. She had broken down all his barriers, forced him to admit to the love he had been keeping inside for so long.

Without him realizing it, she had worked her way deep inside his heart, his mind, his soul. She was so much a part of him now that he could not imagine life without her.

The nudge on his shoulder alerted him that she had reached the front of the church and he swallowed hard as she handed her small bouquet of flowers to her bridesmaid. She turned her head to him as she lifted her veil, her beautiful dark eyes finally revealed to him.

His breath caught at the emotions he found there. Love, acceptance, passion and humor were reflected in the orbs so focused on his. He had always told her that, when she allowed her guard down long enough, you could read her every emotion, every thought, every longing, clear as day, in her eyes.

Today, he saw himself reflected there. He saw his past, his present, and a dream of his future, of their future, in her eyes. He knew in that instant that he was the luckiest man in the galaxy. And if anyone asked him how he knew this, he would simply say it was because he could see the future, their future, in his wife's eyes.

She felt her heart start fluttering the instant she laid eyes on him at the other end of the aisle.

He was dressed in a traditional black tuxedo, his hair worn in the longer, shaggier style of his early years with the SGC. Personally, she thought he had never looked better. He had foregone glasses in favor of contacts for the ceremony, although she had made him promise to put his glasses back on after the pictures and before the reception.

Without the glasses, she could see that his eyes were a deep shade of blue, even from this distance. Her heart leapt and her mind filled with awe at the look in those eyes as he caught sight of her coming towards him. She knew he could not see her eyes through the lace veil, but she knew he knew her gaze was locked on him.

She could feel the love emanating from his being, the joy of it wrapping around her tightly wound body.

She closed her eyes a moment, remembering how long and hard they'd fought to reach this place. Through the near destruction of Earth, the Tok'ra and the Asgard, through the pain and loss and horrifying events of battle and of war, somehow, someway, they had found their way to this moment in time.

The scars he bore were deep, just as were hers. It had taken time and patience and more love than she'd known either of them capable of to overcome the obstacles fate had placed in their way. Still, no matter how difficult the road had been, he had always been there for her, to comfort, to protect and defend. She felt her heart swell as she thought of how many times he'd put his life on the line for her, protecting her from an evil she had watched grow each day.

She had loved him from almost the first moment she had set eyes on him, although she had not realized, or accepted it until years later. Trust and love did not come easy for her, her past had made that all too clear. But knowing him, being with him, working with him to rebuild their lives and lives of those around them, those were the times she felt complete, whole, safe, loved.

He had won her heart long ago, though he tried her patience over the years with his fears and worries about how his past would affect their future. But seeing your whole world nearly destroyed tended to put things into perspective. She had been determined to make him see that as well.

She shivered slightly as she remembered his passionate kisses and whispered words in those few stolen moments they had had while SG-1 traveled far and wide to help rebuild a stronger, safer galaxy.

Moments that were all too few and far between, but moments she would not give up for the world. They were the moments when they had fallen in love.

She swallowed hard as she reached the front of the church, handing her bouquet of flowers to Cassie. Turning, she lifted the veil separating her eyes from his, feeling her breath catch as blue locked with brown.

Looking into his beautiful blue eyes, she felt her breath stolen as she read his every emotion. Love, passion and a pure happiness she had once only dreamed of seeing there when he looked at her. Now, those emotions shone clear and bright, etching themselves in her heart and mind. Nothing could have expressed his feelings, his love for her, better than the way he was looking into her eyes.

In the years to come, when people asked her how she could be so sure of her love, of the fact that she was truly the luckiest woman in the galaxy, she would have no hesitation in her answer, that she could see the future, their future, in her husband's eyes.
