I want to thank my beta reader. This story would not the same without her help.
Also, I wish to dedicate this story to my young cousin, André Bronca, who was born about a two years ago.
To all the DanandJan shippers: Hope you'll enjoy the happy ending
I wanted to make up for my Meridian story "I am already there"
“A sibling reality, co-existing with our own,
hidden from us by a curtain of space, now parted.
A thousand details exactly alike ---
and a thousand as startlingly different as the infinite choices in every moment.”

Universe where Daniel and Janet sent their son Andrew to…
Area 51
As soon as I arrive to the other side of the quantum mirror, I am surprised to find guards pointing weapons at me.
“Don’t move! Identify yourself!” orders one of the guards. He is obviously the commander of this team of guards.
“I am Daniel Jackson, of the SGC. I have come to look for my son, Andrew,” I explain, raising my hands.
“He is clear,” says one of the guards to his commander, after searching me for weapons.
I suppose they have their orders, because they bring me to the SGC right away.
The SGC
The holding room
I spend half an hour in company of two very silent guards before General Hammond, Colonel O’Neill, Teal’c and Doctor Jackson enter the holding room to talk to me.
“This man came through the quantum mirror in Area 51, and he was sent to us by the guards of that base,” explains one of the guards.
I see that the General understands who I am. He turns to me.
“So, I assume you’re from the alternate universe and that you have come back for you son, Andrew,” says the General.
“Yes, General. Where is him?” I ask. I can’t wait to see my son again.
“Andrew is in good hands, Doctor Jackson. But you come from a planet that was under Goa’uld attack. For all we know, you could be one of them. So, we need to check you. Please, understand our caution,” the General tells me.
I nod in understanding. We would do the same, in my universe.
The infirmary
Moments later, I am in the infirmary. Doctors Warner and Fraiser inject me with a mild anesthetic before performing the tests on me.
When I wake up about an hour later, the tests are finished. However, I am still a little under the effect of the anesthetic. Deep inside my clouded mind, I hear Janet’s voice.
I open my sleepy eyes.
“Janet,” I say. I am so relieved to see her!
Janet approaches me, and smiles at me. I smile back, thinking that she looks as gorgeous as ever.
“It is okay, Doctor Jackson. You’re not a Goa’uld,” she reassures me, but my heart skips a beat, as everything is coming back to me.
I realize that this Janet in front of me is not my Janet. She is the Doctor Fraiser from this universe. That is, the universe I sent Andrew to. My Janet would not call me ‘Doctor Jackson.’ She would call me ‘Daniel.’
However, the doctor looks exactly the same as my Janet, and it is difficult for me to hide my love for my Janet.
The doctor knows that I am looking at her, because she is blushing. I suppose that Doctor Fraiser already knows that my Janet is Andrew’s mother.
I have to make a big effort to remind myself that the doctor here isn’t my Janet. So, I look away from Doctor Fraiser. That’s when I see Doctor Jackson, who is also in the room.
Doctor Jackson obviously doesn’t think about Doctor Fraiser THAT way.
“We’ll let you sleep a bit more,” Doctor Fraiser tells me.
“Thanks.”
Everyone leaves the room, following Doctor Fraiser’s orders.
Briefing room
Later that day
After receiving Doctor Fraiser’s permission to leave the infirmary, I am asked to go to the debriefing room. Doctor Jackson brought Andrew to the briefing room, and I could hold the baby in my arms at last.
Right now, the baby is sleeping soundly in my arms. I don’t feel like leaving my son in his crib, because I am so happy to be reunited with him again.
I tell General Hammond and SG-1 what happened in my world. I decided to keep secret who is Andrew’s mother, except if they ask me.
I explain that Apophis of my universe wanted to attack my world to get his revenge.
“Apophis? He is dead in our world,” comments Jack.
“I suppose this is one of the differences between our worlds,” I say.
The others agree.
Continuing with my story, I tell them that Apophis learned from the spy Ruiyac that Andrew is my son.
Hearing this name, SG-1 explains to me what happened here before my arrival. They tell me that the Goa’uld Ruiyac from this universe attempted to kidnap Andrew.
Fortunately, he failed. We don’t have to worry about that anymore. Andrew is safe.
I explain that I protected Shar’eh’s son, which had angered Apophis.
I don’t tell them that I protected Sha’eh’s son by sending him to Kheb. I suppose they did the same in this universe, or that they will eventually. I continue by telling them that the Goa’uld master decided to attack Earth to get Andrew. I tell them as well that the Tollan, the Asgard and the Nox helped my world.
“Well, you’re lucky. I don’t know if they would do the same for us here?” wonders Jack. The others lift their shoulders, not knowing the answer.
I don’t know it either.
I conclude with Apophis’ defeat, which makes my world safe again. That is why I am back for my baby.
As the briefing continues, I make it clear that I wish to return to my universe as soon as possible. General Hammond decides that SG-1 will accompany me to Area 51, to make sure that everything will be fine.
When General Hammond dismisses us at the end of the briefing, we all stand up.
I notice Doctor Jackson looking at Janet, who is picking her notes. Then, Doctor Jackson looks at me briefly. He has a weird expression on his face.
”Dannyboy!” says Jack, startling Doctor Jackson. “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing. There is nothing wrong,” he answers.
“Come on, then. Briefing is over,” replies Jack.
Doctor Jackson’s office
Moments after the briefing, I walk to Doctor Jackson’s office because I want to thank him for his help. However, something makes me stop before I knock on the closed door. I can hear Doctor Jackson’s voice, as well as Doctor Fraiser’s voice. I know I shouldn’t be listening, but I can’t help myself.
“I am going to miss Andrew,” Doctor Jackson is saying inside his office. “I am amazed to realize how much Andrew means to me now. The little baby has grown on me, even if he spent only a few days with us. But, the baby has to return where he belongs.”
“Yes, I will miss him too,” says Doctor Fraiser.
“Doctor Fraiser… Is Andrew the son of the Janet Fraiser from the other universe?”
Apparently, Doctor Fraiser decided to tell him the truth. “Yes, he is,” she declares.
“Why didn’t you tell me?” His voice is calm as he asks this.
However, I notice in Janet’s voice that she doesn’t know what to say.
“At the time, I supposed it wasn’t really necessary to tell you. I didn’t find out myself until I performed a DNA test…Look, I am sorry, I should have told you.”
“Don’t worry,” replies Doctor Jackson. “I only realized it at the end of the briefing today. I should have realized on that night I went to your house, because I was worry about Andrew’s health. I saw briefly a photograph of you, when you were a baby. I should have noticed then that Andrew looks a lot like baby Janet, at the same age.”
“I noticed that similarity too,” agrees Doctor Fraiser.
“Actually, to know that Daniel and Janet from the other universe are Andrew’s parents... it explains a lot,” says Doctor Jackson.
“What do you mean?”
“That’s why baby Andrew calmed so quickly under your care. He ‘felt’ his mother, even though you aren’t his real mother. And it also explains the way Daniel was looking at you.”
I can’t but wonder if I sense a bit of jealousy on Doctor Jackson’s part…
“He was not looking at me!” exclaims Janet, a little too quickly.
For some reason, Doctor Jackson prefers not to reply to this.
“Are you okay with all this? I mean, Andrew being Janet and Daniel’s son?” he asks.
“Yes, and you?” Doctor Fraiser’s voice is calm now.
“Yes, I am okay with it,” he answers with a smile. “Janet, I want to thank you for your help with Andrew.”
“No problem,” she says. I can tell by her voice that she is smiling. “All right, I have to go back to the infirmary now.”
“Okay.”
I move away from the door, and I pretend that I am just arriving to see Doctor Jackson.
Doctor Fraiser gets out of Doctor Jackson’s office, and she sees me.
“Doctor Jackson,” she says, reminding me again that she isn’t my Janet.
She smiles, and leaves in the direction of the infirmary before I can say anything to her. But, somehow, I know that she is aware that I was listening to their conversation.
Once Doctor Fraiser is gone, I knock on Doctor Jackson’s office, and he tells me to enter. “Hello, Doctor Jackson,” I say, entering the office.
“Hello.”
Neither of us knows what to say now. It is very strange, talking to yourself without really talking to yourself.
“Where is Andrew?” asks Doctor Jackson.
“Major Carter volunteered to take care of him while I talked to you.”
Doctor Jackson smiles, but then his face becomes serious.
“Is Andrew Shar’eh’s son? I mean, Andrew doesn’t look like her,” asks Doctor Jackson.
”No, he isn’t her son. Sha’reh is dead in my universe.”
“Oh! I am sorry. My Sha’reh is still alive but she is a host to the Goa’uld Amaunet,” explains Doctor Jackson with sadness in his voice.
I can see that he misses his Shar’eh very much.
”Shar’eh was also a host to Amaunet in my universe, but she died giving birth to her son,” I explain to Doctor Jackson.
“Apophis’ child,” he says. His voice has a hint of anger at thinking about everything the Goa’uld master did to Shar’eh.
“Yes,” I said simply.
I noticed Doctor Jackson’s reaction, and I understand that all this still hurts him. I suffered a lot when my Shar’eh died. So, I can understand Doctor Jackson’s pain, and I sympathize with him.
We remain silent for a moment.
“I was with my Shar’eh when she gave birth to her son,” recalls Doctor Jackson, breaking the silence. “But she got through fine, except that Amaunet continued controlling her after that. To tell you the truth, I don’t know what I would have done if Shar’eh had died then!”
I blush. I can’t help it. I think about what happened between my Janet and me after my Shar’eh’s death. Does Doctor Jackson know how Andrew came to be?
Doctor Jackson looks at me, as if he was deciding whether to tell me or not what he has in mind.
“Doctor Fraiser was here a moment ago…Daniel, for a moment, I could almost understand why you fell in love with your Janet,” admits Doctor Jackson.
This is news for me. I didn’t know he felt this way.
“But my Shar’eh is still out there. I will continue to look for her. I will not give up as long as there was hope. I owe her that,” he declares.
He reminds me of myself, back when my Shar’eh died and I was starting to fall in love with Janet. I felt like I was betraying Shar’eh if I fell in love with Janet. I know this is what Doctor Jackson is feeling.
I wish I could tell Doctor Jackson about Janet. But I couldn’t do that, because of what Doctor Jackson is going through. Obviously, Doctor Jackson is still looking for his Shar’eh. He is still a man whose wife is missing. I cannot change this. Doctor Jackson will have to find his own path, wherever it will take him.
“Doctor Jackson,” I said. “Nobody knows what the future holds,” I tell him.
“That’s true.” He smiled. “What I can tell you is that I wish Andrew Jackson Fraiser and his family a wonderful life.”
It is my turn to smile.
Area 51
SG-1 accompanies Andrew and me to Area 51, as Hammond asked. We pass through security, and we go to the room storing the quantum mirror. Doctor Jackson is holding Andrew in his arms, as a last good bye. I look at the team, and I smile.
“Thanks a lot for your help,” I say sincerely.
“No problem,” says Jack.
Teal’c bends his head, and says, “Indeed.”
Hearing Teal’c saying this, I know that some things never change, whatever universe you are in.
“Maybe we’ll see each other again,” says Sam with hope.
“Who knows?” I wonder.
“Take care of the little one,” says Doctor Jackson, returning the baby to me.
“I will, Doctor,” I reassure him.
I put the baby inside his crib, and touch the quantum mirror. With a flash, Andrew and I are sent back to our universe.
Once on the other side of the mirror, I take a last look at SG-1. The team is waving at me from their universe. I wave back, and then turn the mirror off.
Andrew’s universe
Janet’s house
So, here I am, back in my reality…and back to my Janet. We are sitting in front porch of Janet’s house, enjoying the peaceful evening. Cassie is playing in the yard, under our supervision. Baby Andrew is sleeping in his mother’s arms.
The sun is setting, and I know that the stars will rise soon.
“So, how was the other universe?” Janet asks me.
“Well, I didn’t get to see much of it. But I did see the SGC.”
”Any major differences?”
”Yes, there was one major difference,” I answer, nodding my head.
“And, which one is it?”
“Doctor Jackson and Doctor Fraiser aren’t together in that universe. And Shar’eh is still alive there, although she is the host of Amaunet,” I explain.
I can feel that Janet does not know how to react to this.
”How do you feel about it?” she asks me. “I mean: you know that Shar’eh is alive there. Wouldn’t you want to be in that universe just for that?”
”Shar’eh is alive in that universe, that’s true. But, here, Sha’reh is dead. I mourned her. And now, I am here with you in this universe. I wouldn’t trade this for any another universe,” I said. I have never been as sincere as in this moment.
I stand up, and take a small box out of my pocket.
”And to prove you that I love you, I have something to ask you. Something I should have asked you a long time ago, as a matter of fact.”
I kneel, and then I open the box, revealing a magnificent ring. “Janet, would you marry me?”
Janet is speechless. I know that this is unexpected for her, but it is just exactly what our relationship has been since the beginning. It has been one unexpected twist of fate after another.
“Daniel! This just makes me love you more, and more. Every moment we spend together is precious for me. Yes, I will marry you because I love you too,” she says, when she is at last able to talk.
“Yes!” I exclaim. Joy fills every part of me.
Janet is still holding Andrew in her arms, so I carefully slip the ring in her finger without disturbing our baby.
“Wonderful!” says Cassie. She heard everything, and is very happy.
Smiling, Janet and I kiss. The baby is between us, because Janet is still holding him in her arms. Andrew changed our lives for the best. He was the foundation of our love, and of our new family. He will always be there, reminding us, his parents, of the meaning of our love for each other.
“It’s a lonely world without love.”
