AUTHOR'S NOTES: This is a different version of season 7 after
'Heroes'.
Janet Fraiser hated this part of her job. She had to
go and patch up injured in the middle of a firefight.
No matter how much she didn't mind helping people,
getting shot at really sucked, as Cassandra would say.
She ran over to Airman Wells, the man whose injury
had brought her here, Daniel Jackson beside her. They
crouched next to Wells and began to work.
She did her job as normal, and then all of a sudden,
out of the corner of her eye she saw a staff blast
heading towards her. 'Damn! This is going to hurt!'
she thought. It hit and the next thing she knew,
Daniel was calling for a medic. "Daniel, I'm fine."
She said, when she got her breath back. "I'm wearing
the new insert. The impact just knocked the wind out
of me."
"Janet?!" Daniel asked surprised.
"Yeah!"
"You were dead!"
"Huh? I was just knocked out."
"You weren't breathing and you didn't have a pulse!"
"Ah." She said as she realized she had to explain to
Daniel what had happened, but now was not the time.
"Listen, I'll explain later. Talk to Wells, tell him
I'm alright."
"I will as soon as you're checked out."
"Just take me to my on base quarters first."
"Ok."
Over the radio, they heard "let's go!" Thinking Janet
was still weak, Daniel slung her over his shoulder in
a fireman's carry and ran with her to the gate. She
saw the tape in the video camera and took the
opportunity to steal it from Daniel's pack, knowing
that Daniel had caught her death and resurrection on
tape. 'Definitely not something Bregman should have.'
She thought.
As they got to the 'Gate, Daniel decided to cradle her
and carry her through, despite her protests. Hammond
and two medical teams were waiting on the other side.
O'Neill and Wells were taken away and Hammond asked
Daniel why he was carrying the CMO.
"Cause she was hit with a staff weapon too." Daniel
said matter-of-factly.
"General, at the very most, my ribs are cracked. I
can feel it, they just need to be bound for a few
days." Janet piped up.
"I want you checked out." Hammond ordered.
"They're busy in the infirmary at the moment, sir.
Could I just rest in my quarters until they are done?"
Hammond looked reluctant, but acquiesced to her
request. "Sure Doctor. Dr. Jackson, stay with her."
"General, I'm not a child, with all due respect."
"I know, but it would make me feel better. This is
not a request, Dr. Fraiser!"
"Yes, sir."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Daniel Jackson was amazed. Janet had survived a staff
blast to the chest. He knew that they were working on
an insert for the vest, but still, the angle the shot
hit at should have killed her. Yet, here she was,
complaining that she didn't need a babysitter. Other
than when she asked him to help bind her ribs, to get
her fresh clothes, and to turn around so she could
change, she hadn't said much to him.
At the moment, she was on the phone with Sam, finding
out how Jack was. They finished their chat and hung
up. Janet turned towards Daniel and reading the
expression on his face said "Not here!"
"Ok. When?"
"As soon as I can go home. I'll arrange for you to
take me and then we'll talk."
"Alright."
One of Janet's nurses walked in and said "Dr. Fraiser,
ma'am, its time for your physical now."
"Ok." She said, and then turning to Daniel she asked,
"Will you find me later, Daniel?"
"No, I'm staying with you. The General ordered it,
remember?"
"Right, I forgot."
The two of them followed the nurse to the infirmary.
Daniel, who still needed to change clothes, left Janet
for ten minutes to switch into fresh BDUs when Dr.
Warner told him that he could go. As a favor to
Janet, he snuck into her room and took the BDUs she'd
been wearing on the planet. As both his and hers had
blood on them, he took them to the incinerator and
burned them. Unknowingly, he not only destroyed the
evidence of Janet's injury, but also the tape that had
seen Janet Fraiser be hit in the chest with a staff
blast.
He returned to the infirmary to find that Dr. Warner
had cleared Janet to go home. However, she had to
take it easy and needed an adult, not just Cassandra,
to take care of her. As Sam had already volunteered
to watch Colonel O'Neill, who had just woken up and
had three cracked ribs, Daniel was requested to stay
at the Fraiser household for at least three days.
Warner was expecting Fraiser to protest, but she
didn't.
Janet, for her part, didn't care who she got stuck
with as long as she could go home. She knew Daniel
would question her about her 'miraculous' return from
the dead. As she looked back on the day's events, she
realized that she came too close to leaving. She
silently went over her mental inventory and realized
she needed a gift for Daniel for keeping this quiet.
The two of them were kicked out of the infirmary, as
Dr. Warner relieved her of duty for at least a week.
As soon as General Hammond approved it, Daniel would
take her home. They decided to wait in her base
quarters while Hammond looked over Warner's report.
They were almost there when Bregman came around the
corner with his camera crew. 'Great!' Janet thought.
'He probably knows I've been injured or he wants
Daniel's tape of the mission, which I have.' At the
latter thought, Janet smiled smugly and winked at
Daniel.
'What is she so smug about?' He looked down the hall
and saw Bregman. 'Oh no!' The director hurried up to
the two of them. Janet leaned over to Daniel and
whispered, "I'll take care of this."
"Ok." He replied.
Bregman looked at the pair. 'She said she wasn't
married, but she never said she was single. I wonder
if those two are together?'
"Dr. Fraiser – is it true that not only Colonel
O'Neill was injured, but an airman as well as
yourself?"
"Yes, its true. The airman, Wells, is expected to
live, as is Colonel O'Neill. As for me, I am fine, as
you can see. I'm just heading to my quarters to
rest."
"Don't let me keep you, then. I'm sure that it's been
a long day." Bregman oozed.
"He's right. Come on, let's get you to your room."
Daniel offered his arm for her to lean on.
"Thank you, Daniel." They walked off, leaving a
confused Bregman in their wake.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
'Mom's car pulled up to the garage.' Cassie Fraiser
noted as she was finishing her homework. She put down
her pencil and went to greet her mother. She was
surprised to see Daniel leading her mother into the
house.
"Mom, what happened?"
"Jaffa." Janet replied.
"Ooh." Cassie winced, and then asked "Staff or zat?"
"Staff."
"Need anything?"
"Nope. I'm fine now. My ribs will have to stay
bandaged for a few days and I'm off for a week."
"Friday, we go camping as usual?"
"Sure!"
Daniel became increasingly confused as the
conversation went on. It was like he was watching
them speak in code. In fact, they weren't, they were
talking about the secret Janet was about to impart to
Daniel.
"Uh…what's going on?" Daniel asked.
"Oh right, you don't know." Cassie remarked.
"Well he's going to know now." Janet declared.
"You're actually going to tell him?! He is the worst
secret keeper we know!"
"I know, but he saw it. I have no choice. Besides,
he is going to be like me."
"Really?" Cassie asked.
"I can sense it. It was supposed to happen earlier,
but…"
"The ascension and the sarcophagi?" Cassie guessed.
"Yep. I would have helped it along, but was unable
to." Janet answered.
"I see."
"Would one of you please explain it to me?!" Daniel
shouted, having lost his patience.
"Sure, follow me. Cass, finish your homework, then
start dinner will you?"
"You got it, Mom."
Janet led Daniel to her study and opened the door.
Motioning for him to precede her in, she closed and
locked the door behind her. Janet walked over to a
bookcase and pulled a book off the shelf. The
bookcase moved and a door was revealed. Janet opened
it and led Daniel to the basement.
'The basement?' Daniel thought. 'I didn’t think Janet
even had one.' He voiced that thought to Janet, who
laughingly asked him how he thought the house was held
up if it didn’t have a basement.
"I never thought of that, either."
"Daniel, just because there isn't proof of something
doesn't mean it isn't there."
"Like the 'Gate?"
"Yes, like the 'Gate and people like me."
"What?"
"Daniel, what I'm about to show you is something that
has been in legends but never proven. This is also
something more secret than the Stargate, hell the
governments of the world don't even have a clue about
it."
"And you're telling me?"
"Yes, because this is your future."
"Ok." He said disbelievingly.
They walked into a room walled off from the rest of
the basement. In the room was a sparring mat, a wall
full of swords, and a file cabinet. Janet led him
over to the cabinet and opened it. Handing him one of
the files, she stepped back and grabbed the camera she
kept down there. He quickly read the file and as he
finished, he looked up at Janet with an expression
that reminded her of a gaping fish. She took a quick
picture then asked Daniel if he had any questions.
"Yes, a lot of questions."
"Good. Ask away!"
"Ok. First, how could you bear an exact likeness to
this woman?"
"Easy. I was that woman."
"How were you this woman?"
"I'm Immortal."
"You're Immortal?" He asked, skeptical of her claim.
"Yes. Want proof?"
"Yep."
She went over to the wall and picked out a short
sword. She took off her uniform blouse. "Don't want
or need to ruin that." She said, hanging it on the
file cabinet. She went over to the mat and grabbed a
towel from the rack next to it. She then shoved the
blade into her heart. Daniel was stunned that she had
killed herself. He ran over to her and automatically
pulled out the sword and began CPR. After three
minutes, he stopped. He sighed, then picked up her
body and walked to the door. He was about to go
upstairs when he heard a shuddering breath. He looked
down to see Janet's brown eyes looking back at him.
Startled, he nearly dropped the petite doctor. As it
was, she got him to put her down. He finally got
control of his confused mind long enough to ask, "What
are you?"
"I told you, I'm Immortal."
"Wow. I totally believe you now." He said
sarcastically.
"Daniel, I just died. No pulse, no breathing and yet
I'm talking to you now. And I did it without Goa'uld
or Asgard technology."
It sunk in then, the fact that she had died from the
Jaffa blast on that planet. 'Daniel may be a genius,
but even geniuses get flustered.' Janet thought
amusedly.
"So you can’t die…well at least not for a long period
of time?"
"No. There is only one way to permanently kill me and
others like me."
"Really? And what may that be?"
"Yes, really. Total decapitation is the only way to
make me 'stay dead', so to speak."
"You mean…?" Daniel made a slashing motion across his
throat.
"Yeah." She said softly.
"You said there are others like you?"
"Yes, there are many like me. Some of them are my
dear friends, but others have tried to kill me but
failed."
"Why would they try to kill you?" Daniel, now
extremely curious, asked.
"Because of the 'Game'."
"The 'Game'?"
"Most Immortals believe that, in time, there will be
something called 'the Gathering' where all the
Immortals will fight until there is only one left.
That one Immortal will have enough power to rule the
world. I plan to not be that one Immortal, reason
being I don't want to go insane. You know the saying
'absolute power corrupts absolutely.' I plan to
smuggle any and all who want to survive it through the
'Gate, now that its open." Janet said, determined.
"Why?"
"This way, we won't be hunted by the winner. That and
so we are protected if someone takes the winner out."
"Protected from what?"
"The Quickening. Some, like me, have come to consider
it the soul. When one of us dies, that soul is
transformed to the nearest Immortal, who is usually
the killer."
"Why are you telling me all this?" Daniel asked.
"Other than Cassie, who I told out of necessity, I
trust you the most."
"What about Sam?"
"She may be my best mortal friend, but even she would
give away my secret if ordered to."
"And I won't? I mean I wouldn't if I had a choice,
but under torture…"
"You wouldn't." Janet firmly stated. "The other
reason I decided to tell you is because you have the
potential to be like me, that and you did see me die."
"You mean I…?"
"Yes. Normally, I would have waited until your 'first
death', but you have been saved by various devices."
"Why didn't I after Kelowna?"
"All I can figure is that Oma Desala ascended your
soul. Therefore, you had no Quickening, thus your
Immortality had not activated."
"How do you know?"
"Know…?" Janet asked, not sure what he meant.
"How do you know that I'm like you?"
"Because I can feel it. Those of us older than one
hundred fifty, often can fell the presence of
pre-Immortals. Of course, it is a practiced thing,
only taught by certain teachers."
"Ok. So you had a teacher?"
"Yes, an older Immortal took me in after I died the
first time. It’s a tradition of sorts, older
Immortals take new ones under their wing and teach
them how to survive."
"What do they teach?"
"Creating identities, self defense, and the rules of
the 'Game'."
"The Game has rules?"
"Yes, barbaric as it is, it has rules. One being that
fights are one on one, no interference from others.
Teachers often will fight in place of their students,
however. The other being that no one can fight on
holy ground and any religion counts."
"Really?"
"Yes. If the second rule is broken, something
horrible will happen." Janet shuddered.
"That rule must have been broken one, if you are
reacting like that."
"Yes, at least in legend. Immortal lore says that the
only time a fight took place on holy ground, Pompeii
was destroyed."
"Whoa"
"Yeah."
"So, what about you? Who are you really?"
"Well, I am Janet."
"I know that, you are Janet now."
"No, that is the name I was born with. I was born as
Janette Dubois in 1432. Over the years, I have almost
always used a form of Janette as my name. When I was
the woman in that file, that was the only time I used
any other name."
"So you were a lady-in-waiting to Queen Anne?"
"Yes, for a while. When I stopped looking the age I
was supposed to be, I 'died'. Over the years, I've
also given my identities to women who resembled me,
this way both they and I got a new start."
"Wow. So, what do you do after your identity 'dies'?"
"I usually go to another continent and become someone
else. Like for instance, after leaving the queen's
service I returned to Europe and became Janette Dubois
again. In the time before the Internet and
fingerprinting, I found it much easier to change
identities."
"I would think so. It sounds like you've led a very
interesting life, Janet."
"I'll tell you all about it, beginning to present.
Not today though. It would require at least five
bottles of wine."
"Five?"
"Yeah, four for me and one for you. Its not like it's
going to kill me, now is it?"
"True. So what now?" Daniel asked.
"Now, I'll begin training you. Even though you aren't
Immortal yet, it would be useful for you to learn."
"Learn?"
"Yeah, how to be an Immortal, remember?"
"Oh. That."
"This way you'll be prepared when it happens."
"Ok."
"Good, let's pick out a weapon for you. Although you
won't use it until you can use it without hurting
yourself."
"What will I use then?"
"A wooden practice sword. Every sword in my
collection has a wooden counterpart, same weight and
length."
"Ok."
Janet walked over to a large closet that Daniel had
missed in his perusal of the room. In that closet
were wooden copies of the swords on the wall. She
pointed to the sword wall, wordlessly telling Daniel
to pick one out while she would find the partner sword
in the closet.
Daniel looked intently at the variety of swords.
There was a Scottish claymore, a katana, a scimitar,
and an English broadsword. There were others, but
these four interested him. He decided to hold each
one and see if he could see himself using it. The
broadsword was the first to be put back. The claymore
Daniel saw was too heavy. The katana was nice, but he
didn't feel it suited him. He picked up the scimitar,
but it didn't feel right either.
"Janet, none of these suit me."
"Really?"
"Yeah, the scimitar was the closest, but the style
really doesn't work for me."
"Oh." An idea came to her mind. "I'll put in a call to
one of my 'old' friends, he's an antiques dealer
specializing in edged weapons. I'll trade him three
pieces of my collection for your sword. Besides, I
owe you one."
"No, you don't. I owe you more than I could ever say.
Just think of it as one mark of my debt to you."
"Still, I'm giving it to you. No arguments."
"Ok." He smiled; she was still the most stubborn
person he knew.
"I'll make sure he brings a few types of scimitar for
you to look at."
"Thanks Janet."
"No problem. You have no idea how much it means to me
to have someone to talk to about my life."
"Well, I'm just glad you're alive. I don't know what
we'd do without you."
"I'm glad you didn't say anything."
"I promise, I never will."
"Shall we go upstairs? We'll begin your lessons in a
few days. It will take at least two to get ahold of
my friend."
"Ok. I have a question though. Janet, what if I die
off world and you can't cover it up?"
"Don't worry. I have an agreement in place with Thor
in case that happens."
"Really?"
"They can sense what I am, what you will become. He
knows that this secret is important to the Tau'ri
race's survival. In fact those were his exact words,
though he wouldn't elaborate on that." Janet said as
she led Daniel back upstairs. As soon as the bookcase
was firmly in place, Janet led Daniel out of her study
and into the kitchen. They ate in silence, it being
three hours past their normal dinnertime. Cassie was
sitting on the couch watching television as they
walked into the living room.
"Done telling him, Mom?" Cassie asked.
"Yep."
"So, Cassie, your mom said that she had to tell you
about herself?"
"Yeah. When I first moved in with her, she had an
accident…"
"Cassandra Fraiser! Don't you dare!" Janet said
threateningly.
Cassie ignored her mother and continued anyway. "So
anyway, I was holding her hair dryer, asking what it
did. She was distracted and told me to put it on the
edge. I didn't know what edge she meant, so I put it
on the edge of the tub. Later she filled the tub,
then got in, accidentally knocking the dryer in with
her. What neither of us knew was that the dryer was
still plugged in. She electrocuted herself, died, and
came back. I had come into the bathroom just in time
to see her die then resurrect herself, because I had
heard her yell. She was so mad!"
"Cassie, you are grounded for a week for this!" Janet
said embarrassed.
"It's funny though, Mom!"
"Now it is, but you were terrified at the time!"
"True." Cassie conceded.
"Aw, Janet. That wasn't too bad. The worst way to
die has to be radiation poisoning. After all, who
would be sure that the Immortality would have left me
without scars?"
"True. You do have a point."
"Yes, I do! So you back to normal yet?"
"Yes, I have been for thirty minutes." She said
looking at her watch.
"Wait, how is it your watch didn't stop?" Cassie
asked. "I know you put out an electric pulse when you
come back from being dead."
"Easy, shockproof watch!"
"Wait, electric pulse?" Daniel asked. Janet hadn't
said anything about that. 'She has said a lot today,
she probably hadn't gotten around to it yet.'
"Yes, it’s a part of how we return to life.
Unfortunately the amount of power we carry causes
sterility in both Immortals and pre-Immortals." Janet
said gently. She had not wanted to burst Daniel's
bubble on that subject just yet.
"So, Immortals can't have children? And because I'm a
pre-Immortal I can't either?"
"Yeah."
"Oh." He said softly, processing the information.
"Let's watch some television and stop being so sad."
Cassie broke in. "Everyone is alive and well, it has
been a good day."
All three went further into the living room and
watched television. Daniel kept an part of his mind
on the show, the rest of his mind going over what he
had learned that day and reconciling what he now knew
not only of Janet Fraiser but also of himself to what
he knew before the staff blast. As for Janet, he
realized she was the same person, only he now had a
deeper understanding of her. Although he had known her
for seven years, he now felt he really knew her.
'This is going to be one wild ride.' He thought. 'Its
going to be very interesting.'
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Six months later…
Daniel had progressed well in his Immortal training.
Janet was a fair and honest teacher, always kind to
him but urging him to improve. They spent a lot of
time together off base and SG-1 had definitely
noticed. They tried to get the facts out of Daniel
and Janet, but they had no luck. Daniel's teammates
were frustrated that they had to guess when they
placed their bets in the Daniel/Janet betting pool.
Janet, for her part, was excited. She had had a few
students before Daniel, but none took to the training
as well as he had. She found herself not only
enjoying teaching him but also getting to know him on
a deeper level. She had observed him since the first
time he had entered her infirmary and found her self
more impressed with him now than she was then.
In the past, there had been an attraction between the
two. Although they were friends before, now they were
each other's best friend of the opposite gender.
Janet kept her word and told him of her life before
the SGC. She told him of her teacher, a woman named
Amanda; of how she'd died the first time; of the
husbands she'd had –three, one of whom was a jerk and
disparaged her entry into the military. Of course, it
was before the invention of flight. She also told him
of her Immortal friends she'd had over the years – the
McLeods, Methos, Rebecca, Darius and Cassandra, to
name a few.
He in turn had confided in her. He told her about his
parents' death, growing up in Egypt, his foster homes,
Nick, Sarah and Sha're. He told her everything he
couldn't tell Jack or Sam. Over this period of time,
he'd fallen for the person he knew she truly was. Of
course, being Daniel, he was dense and hadn't admitted
it to himself.
Then the day came. Jack had been promoted to
commanding officer of the SGC as well as Brigadier
General. Sam and Janet finally both got promoted to
Lieutenant Colonel. Jonas had come through the 'Gate
with information about the Lost City. SG-1 went
through the 'Gate and found another of the Ancients'
repositories. Jack ended up taking the information
again. As soon as he did, the Jaffa led by Herak,
Anubis' First Prime, arrived. The SGC had sent three
teams to back up SG-1, so SG-5 and SG-7 tried to
distract the Jaffa, this way General O'Neill could
safely get back to the 'Gate. It worked, but Daniel
was hit by a staff blast as he was stepping through
the 'Gate. He had not been wearing the insert, only
because intelligence had said there was no Jaffa
around. He hit the ramp in the 'Gate room hard. He
could feel the energy leaving his body and called out
for the one person that could help him. "Janet!" he
yelled.
She had already been in the 'Gate room thinking she'd
be needed. She ran over to Daniel, checking him over
for injury. She saw the scorch mark on the left side
of his back. If the blast had hit him head on, it
would have hit his heart.
"Janet, promise me you'll let me do it!" he whispered,
referring to becoming Immortal.
"I have no choice. I'll sequester you until you're
ready." She whispered.
Then she called over her med team with a stretcher.
She had them take him to a private room that he had
never seen her put someone in before. Janet ordered
two guards to stand at the door and to let no one in
but her. Then she returned to the infirmary to patch
up everyone else. She promised O'Neill that Daniel
would see him soon and hurried back to the man she'd
secretly fallen in love with.
He'd already slipped into unconsciousness by the time
she'd gotten to the room. She stripped him down to
his boxers, cleaned the wound so it would heal faster
once he awakened, then sat and waited. Five minutes
after she cleaned the blast wound, Daniel stopped
breathing. Janet sighed, tucked him into the bed and
left the room, telling the guards that no one was to
go in but her because Dr. Jackson was resting.
For two days, Janet kept up the façade that Daniel was
alive but resting. The third day, she sat beside him
for three hours, watching and waiting. When she got
up to order herself some lunch, she noticed some
movement from the bed. Then she felt the 'Buzz', the
sign that Daniel was indeed an Immortal now. She
checked the wound, pleased to see it was almost gone.
She waited a few more minutes before Daniel's eyes
opened.
"Hey." She said, smiling softly at him.
"Hi, Janet. Which is worse: the dying or the coming
back?"
"The dying, definitely the dying." Janet replied.
"I thought so. So how's everybody?"
"Good, but Jack's deteriorating. His last coherent
order was that they'd wait for you before leaving to
the coordinates the repository had."
"Well, I'm ready. All I have to do is pretend my
shoulder hurts and that I'm more injured than I look."
"Yep. Be careful and don't give yourself away."
"I will. Ok, let's go."
"I can't. Another of the General's orders were to
leave me in charge of the base. Almost every team is
going, including SG-12, the medical team. I will only
have SG-11 and SG-14 here. Their C.O.s are both
majors, so I'm the only ranking officer on base. That
and General O'Neill thinks I'll get shot at again."
"Well, Colonel Fraiser, good luck."
"You too, Doctor Jackson." Daniel got up and dressed
quickly. Janet left the room once she was sure Daniel
was steady on his feet. Daniel went and found Sam
trying to get Jack to smile. Once Jack saw for
himself that Daniel was all right, he nodded excitedly
and then the mobilization began. Every team that was
going gathered at the 'Gate, ready to go to the
coordinates Jack had programmed into the computer.
Daniel felt the 'Buzz' and looked up at the control
room where Janet had just appeared. He felt the pain
go away and he smiled at her. She leaned forward and
spoke into the microphone. "SG Teams, you have a go!
Godspeed and kick some ass!"
The teams cheered and as one turned and saluted Janet,
knowing how much she wanted to go along but was
committed to her duty, and today that was commanding
the base. She returned it, smiling proudly. As they
ordered arms, the iris opened and the 'Gate activated.
The team known as SG-1 led the way, for what would
prove to be the last time with its original members.
Jack, Sam, Teal'c, and Daniel marched through the
wormhole followed by twelve other teams as well as
Jonas.
The 'Gate disengaged and Janet turned and told
Sergeant Davis that if she were needed, she'd be in
the infirmary. Janet went back to her office and
filled out as much paperwork as possible, trying to
take her mind off of Daniel and the events of the day.
She had finally cleaned out her in-tray when she
received a call. The operator told her someone was at
the front gate demanding to speak to Jack O'Neill.
"Alright. Tell them the current commanding officer of
this base is coming to meet with them." Janet ordered.
She grabbed two SFs and took the elevator to the
surface. She walked over to the guard and asked "That
them?"
"Yes, ma'am, Colonel Fraiser."
Janet walked over to the waiting couple and asked,
"Excuse me. I'm Lt. Col. Janet Fraiser, temporary
C.O. of this base. General O'Neill is away at the
moment. May I help you?"
The woman turned to her companion and said, "Well…"
The tall man nodded, giving his agreement to explain.
The woman began again. "Colonel, I'm Sara and this is
my fiancé Bill. I need to see Jack as soon as
possible."
"Why come to the base? Why not when he's at home or
call his office?" Janet asked.
"Well we tried, but he is never in either place. So
we thought we'd corner him."
"The General hates being cornered. I should know that
better than anyone, I'm his doctor."
"We had to try. Its very important I talk to him
ASAP. Is there any way you can contact him?"
"No, not at the moment, but I'll have the General call
as soon as he gets back."
"Thanks." The couple said and began to walk away.
Janet went back inside before they could question why
a doctor would be in charge of a base. She went to
Jack's office, then ordered security to keep an eye on
the two until they were off base property. She wrote
down the message and left it on his desk. She turned,
about to go and eat in the commissary when the red
phone rang. She answered it, and for an hour Janet
reported to the president. She hung up and continued
to wait. She wasn't sure how long it took, but the
klaxons began to blare. Janet ran to the control room
and ordered the iris closed until Davis replied,
"Colonel, it's SG-3's code."
"Open the iris. Defense teams and medical teams to
the 'Gate room." Janet ordered. She was about to join
the medical team when Davis grabbed her arm. "Doctor,
ma'am, you shouldn't go down there. For one you
aren't the Doc right now, you are the C.O. Two, Dr.
Warner is already there. That is ma'am if you don't
mind my saying so."
"You're right and I don't mind." Janet said, shaking
her head at his logic. As she turned back to the
control room window, she watched as the SG teams
stumbled back through the 'Gate. Many were slightly
injured – only five required surgery and even those
were not life threatening. They waited for five
minutes and just as she was about to order the iris
closed to prevent irate Jaffa from coming through, she
felt the 'Buzz'. As she looked up, SG-1, all of SG-1,
came tumbling through the 'Gate. Jack O'Neill looked
up at the control room.
"Lt. Colonel Fraiser, you are relieved of command –
you are free to resume your regular duties." Jack
ordered.
"Yes, sir." Came the crisp reply.
As soon as she finished with the last of the
post-mission physicals, Janet Fraiser signed out and
left the base. General O'Neill had given her a week's
downtime. Actually, the whole base got a week off –
there was only a skeleton crew working. The Tau'ri
had not defeated the Goa'uld completely, but Anubis
and his lackeys were destroyed. The Goa'uld System
Lords had suffered a serious set back.
Janet knew that after the celebration, it would only
be a matter of time before Sam and Jack finally took
their heads out of their asses and admitted what the
whole base, hell the whole universe knew: they were
in love with each other. She pulled into her
driveway, smiling as she saw Daniel's car there. He
was almost ready to be on his own as an Immortal. She
was proud that she had started earlier with him, it
had saved her a lot of trouble. His final test before
he left her training would be his first challenge.
She walked into her house, surprised to find a
romantic set up waiting for her. "I told myself that
when I returned from this mission, I'd tell you how I
feel. So here it is: I love you, Janet. No matter
what."
"I love you too, Daniel."
With that, Daniel leaned over and kissed her. The
next morning, Cassie was quite surprised to find
Daniel in the kitchen in Janet's frilly pink bathrobe.

Twenty-five years later…
The people once known as Janet Fraiser and Daniel
Jackson stood on the fringes of the mourners at the
O'Neills' funeral. Jack had passed away in his sleep
along with his wife Sam. They missed their friends
very much since they 'died' fifteen years before.
Teal'c noticed the petite red-haired woman and the
tall dark-haired man at the edge of the group as they
broke away from the gravesites. He also noticed
Cassandra Fraiser go over to them and greet them, but
as soon as he got to them, they were gone.
Later that night, Jackson and Janette Hammond boarded
a plane to Paris, where she worked as a fashion
designer for the House of Armani and he worked as a
professor of mythology at the local university. They
waved goodbye to Cassie and they said a final goodbye
to the last vestiges of their lives as Daniel and
Janet Fraiser-Jackson. They lived rather happily ever
after on Earth that is until the 'Gathering' when they
and a few of their friends went through the thing that
brought them together – the Stargate.
