Janet stopped cold when she heard the doorbell ring. She was trying on the fourth dress when she heard it. It was time. He was on time. This was really happening. She shook it off and proceeded to pull on the new black dress she had decided on.

She was about to yell for Cassie to open the door when she heard "I got it!". She heard faint voices and a few polite laughs. Good. They were getting along fine. She hated to put Cassie in the middle of this but this was Daniel. Oh yeah, she thought, this is Daniel.

Realising she'd stopped in thought mid zipper, she quickly pull herself together and finished dressing. Cassie knocked lightly on her bedrrom door before entering and smiled at her mother.

"You look great."

"Thanks, honey,it's not too much is it?"

"I kind of thought that was the point." Cassie grinned. Janet gave her daughter a double take. She was becoming a woman and every so often it threw her for a loop.

Janet smiled "I guess it is, isn't it?"

Cassie nodded.

Janet pulled her in for a hug "You're growing up too fast."

She pulled away and they shared a warm smile. Janet took one more look in the mirror "Ok, I guess I'm ready." She took a very deep breath...did dating ever get any easier?

Daniel paced. He had attempted to sit down but as soon as he did, he was up again. Pacing. Then he heard footsteps and talking and this was the moment it was all about to begin. He turned around as the voices got nearer and stood there, goofiest look he could muster planted on his face. He tried to change it, tried to smile but he was caught off guard by Janet. And that dress. Wow. That dress. After what seemed an eternity, he managed to speak.

"Wow." he shook his head "You look...." he paused, searching for the right word, eyebrow furrowed "....wow."

They just stared at each other for a few seconds, taking it all in. This was where it all began. The first date of what looked like would be many more.

Daniel finally shook himself out of his shock "I guess we better get going."

"Yeah." Janet answered, a little of her nerves coming through.

She turned to Cassie "Sam said she'd call and check in on you later. There's money for you and Jennifer to get a pizza...and no boys." She smiled as Cassie showed her usual shock. She kissed her daughter on the cheek the turned to Daniel. He was still admiring the dress. He smiled at being caught then led her out the door. Cassie sighed with relief that the evening could finally begin.

After the concert, and dinner at a quaint little restaurant in Larimer Square, they decided to enjoy the cool spring air. The square was usually filled with tourists but this was off season and the locals reclaimed their spot. Lots of couples strolled the streets, looking in shop windows and taking in a late dinner.

The air was growing cooler. Daniel took off his jacket and wrapped it around Janet's shoulders, pulling her closer to him. She looked into his eyes, warmed by his gesture. She smiled and looked away and began walking again. This was all moving a little too fast. She felt like her head was spinning. She ran through her mind all the reasons this might not be a good idea. She was his doctor, after all. But she quickly dismissed the thoughts and decided to simply enjoy the evening with her friend.

Jack walked into Sam's lab, immediately realizing she was talking to Cassandra on the phone. Sam smiled at him to let him know she would only be a second.

He looked around her lab, picking up things he probably shouldn't, pacing around the room. Sam kept a watchful eye on him, cringing as he almost picked up the wiring she'd just so diligently put together.

"What movie is he taking you to?" Sam asked into the phone.

This caught Jack's attention. He still wasn't used to the fact that Cassie was sixteen years old and dating. Boys. He'd been one himself and knew what they were thinking. That made him worry even more.

"She better not have any boys over there." Jack yelled from across the room. Sam rolled her eyes. She placed her hand over the receiver and whispered to Jack "She's seeing him tomorrow, in the afternoon, the middle of the day, light outside...." she turned back to the phone "...yes, I'm listening. She did? He did? ...I see...I know she won't tell me anything so I may have to rely on you for details."

Sam laughed at Cassie's response then they said their goodbyes.

"So any more gossip on the Daniel and Janet front?" Jack asked casually as he picked up an odd shaped item, looking at it questioningly.

"And why should I tell you?" Sam politely took the item out of hands.

"Because I'm your commanding officer."

"Yeah. That's a good reason."

"C'mon. Tell me."

"No..." she smiled, "you'll jsut use it for evil." she laughed.

He shrugged. She was right. Daniel was safe, for now.

"Was there something you wanted, sir?" she asked, hoping he didn't just stop by because he was bored.

"Nope. Just seeing what you were up to."

"I thought you had plans this weekend."

"I did. But Hammond needed some reports that I hadn't gotten to yet so I'm stuck working this weekend."

Sam sighed internally. Last time he was stuck on base like this he ran through almost every excuse coming by to see her. He was bored and like a little child, just wanted someone to play with.

She laid down her tool and stood up. "How 'bout a movie?"

"But you have work."

"Something tells me I'm not going to get much done. C'mon, I'm buying"

Jack smiled...works every time.

Daniel pulled up in front of Janet's house and walked her to the door. The neighborhood was quiet with only the occasional car passing by. Janet reluctantly removed Daniel's jacket she still had on and handed it to him. He put it on and noticed a scent that could only be her perfume.

"I almost forgot, Cassie wanted to know if you would help her with her history project. Ancient Egypt."

"And you called in the expert."

"Of course." She smiled.

"I'd love to help her. So I'm assuming they don't want the real story" he smiled back, moving in closer to Janet.

"Yes, it's still just our little secret." She leaned her body slightly forward.

He moved in closer, his voice soft. "We seem to have alot of little secrets, don't we?"

He brought his had to her cheek and brushed away a stray hair. Then he brought up his other hand and cupped her face in his hands to bring her lips to his. Janet could feel her whole body giving into the sensation as his lips brushed against hers. The first touch light and hesitant as if asking permission. She didn't back away, didn't move at all but just closed her eyes and parted her lips slightly to let him know she wanted to feel his lips again.

Daniel felt her lips part and he deepened the kiss, yet still hesitant. He pulled away slowly to look into her eyes. He lowerd his left hand but let his right one linger, tracing her lips with his thumb. The lips he had just so happily kissed. They shared a warm smile before Daniel let his other hand drop from her cheek.

They looked into each others eyes with the promise of more. As Daniel lowerd his lips to hers for a another kiss, the mood was broken by the sound of two teen girls giggling. The sound was coming from the window next to the front door. Janet turned around but just as she did so, they heard the sound of two sets of feet scurreying off.

"We have an audience," Daniel said as he allowed himself another kiss. Janet welcomed the kiss and let him linger longer than he expected.

She pulled away reluctantly. "I better get inside. No telling what's been going on while I was gone."

"Yeah. So, when do you want me to help Cassie?"

"Tomorrow? If you come by around 10am we'll be making our usual Sunday pancakes."

"Pancakes...mmm...I'll be there." He couldn't stop smiling. His heart was racing and he couldn't keep his eyes off her lips or her beautiful eyes. He wanted to keep staring at her, getting to know every line in her face when she smiled or the way her nose crinkled when she laughed.

"Daniel."

"Yeah."

Her lips parted slightly, about to speak, contemplating her next words. His eyes immediately went to her lips. He wanted to kiss them again.

"I..um...I..."

"What is it?" he asked softly, brushing another stray hair away from her face.

She smiled to reassure him "It's nothing. This has been wonderful."

"Yes. It has..." he leaned in and gave her a kiss on the cheek then whispered in her ear "...I want to do more of this." Then he pulled away, smiled at her and began walking away "I'll see you tomorrow."

Janet watched him get into his car and drive away. She opened the door and heard the house full of sounds of two teenage girls. She left the door open slightly but walked out to the front steps and sat down, looking up at the stars. It was quiet outside and she could allow herself to let the evening linger on, thinking of the way everything felt so right.

the end.
