Daniel was sure he was going crazy. There was no other explanation. Nothing else could make him see her, hear her, taste her, for crying out loud, when she wasn't there.

Yes, he'd confessed to having feelings for her. Caring, affection - not love, surely, but strong and important feelings nonetheless. Shouldn't confession have brought absolution?

The feelings were stronger than ever.

She'd said to come see her when he realized he was lonely. Daniel was beginning to realize it.

It was stupid, surely, for someone with his luck and experience to dream of spending his entire life with one person. However, thoughts of that sort had finagled their way into his brain, and he couldn't shake them loose.

Daniel was not impressed. He was a scientist. Why couldn't he seem to block extraneous emotion out of his mind?

He clearly wasn't much of a scientist.

He was miserable. There was no other word for it.

He needed her. He knew that now, after mere days of not seeing her. Everything seemed dull - black and white - when she wasn't there.

She must have known this would happen. She'd known the effect she had on him, and she was driving him crazy on purpose. Damn woman.

He wanted her. Desperately.

He had to see her again, to be with her. He needed to tell her how he felt. Before it was too late.

She'd told him straight out that she wouldn't wait forever. Why had he let her leave after that?

He was an idiot. Daniel was sure there wasn't another man alive who would have let Janet leave like that.

She'd been avoiding him at work and, really, he couldn't blame her for it. However, now that he realized he needed to talk to her, it made things very difficult. She never seemed to be in the infirmary when he stopped by, or in the lab or the commissary or anywhere else he looked. In addition, no one would tell him where she was, or even hint. It seemed the base was firmly on Janet's side in this twisted little situation.

The only option, it seemed, was to catch her at home. She'd done it to him, after all.

He thought about showing up with candy or flowers or wine, but nothing seemed appropriate. Besides, he didn't know what he'd do with it if she turned him down.

Empty-handed, breathing shallowly, Daniel rang Janet's doorbell and prepared to offer his heart to her.
