SUMMARY: The continuing relationship of Drs. Janet Fraiser and Daniel Jackson...
DISCLAIMER: MGM, et al, own them, not the story, though.
First there was just the initial attraction after so
many years as just friends. Then came the nerve
racking moment when he finally asked her out. After
that, things began falling into place. They were
growing comfortable with their newfound relationship.
And an ease had fallen between them, little touches at
work when no one was looking, the shared glances.
But now it was that other defining moment when things
took that serious step forward.
Daniel turned down the street leading to Janet’s
house, noting the first snow of the season. It was so
beautiful and the night sky added to the beginning of
what he was hoping would be the perfect evening.
Tonight, he decided, would be the night. They had
only been officially dating for a couple of weeks and
technically had only been out on one real date. After
that, there had been the one Sunday afternoon when
things got a little more heated than he’d been
prepared for. He smiled at the memory. One minute
she’s his friend from work and the next he’s making
out with her on the sofa.
As he approached her house, he took a deep breath.
Things were moving so quickly with them. On the other
hand, he’d known her for 5 years and in that time she
had seen him through some of his most difficult times;
one of them being the death of his beloved wife.
Daniel parked the car in front of Janet’s house. He
glanced over at the flowers he brought and smiled
again. He was bringing flowers to the woman he was in
love with and he couldn’t help but grin. He found
he’d been doing a lot of that lately.
As he approached the door, he heard voices inside. He
heard Janet’s frustrated voice and another higher
pitched and obviously angry voice coming from Cassie.
He glanced at his watch to make sure he wasn’t early,
hoping he could just wait a few minutes till things
calmed down. Nope, he was actually late. He
realized he might as well get used to it and took a
deep breath then rang the doorbell.
Janet tried to give him the smile she felt he deserved
but she was still frustrated with her 16-year-old
daughter. It was always something and she wondered
briefly if she had been this demanding and dramatic in
her teen years.
Stepping aside to let him in, she gave him a small
kiss on the lips as a consolation for walking into the
middle of a battle.
“Sorry, we’re having a disagreement about what is
appropriate attire for a 16 year old.”
“Maybe these will help” he offered the small bunch of
daisies.
And for his effort he was rewarded with a much longer,
lingering kiss. For a brief moment, the thoughts of
16 year olds and their clothes were forgotten.
Daniel pulled away and smiled down at her, caressing
the lips he’d just kissed, “So, I should probably
bring you flowers more often.”
He shivered at the touch of her lips as she kissed his
fingertips lightly.
“How did you know daisies were my favorite, and where
did you find them this time of year?” she pulled away
finally, taking his hand in hers and leading him into
the kitchen.
“Sam told me they were your favorite, apparently
they’re her favorite as well.”
“Yeah, we send each other a bouquet on our birthdays.
Did she tell you where to find them?” Janet filled
the vase with water then arranged the flowers. They
added a nice bright happy feeling. Ok, so maybe it
wasn’t just the flowers, but they helped.
Daniel watched as she placed the flowers on the
counter, her smile radiant with his beautiful gesture.
“No, actually Jack told me.” He pulled her into his
arms, placing a kiss on her cheek.
Janet smiled as the kisses moved closer to her ear.
“Just one of those useless bits of info he has stored
away?”
Daniel smiled and looked into her eyes, “Yeah, I think
it’s for future use.”
“You know, I’m really glad you’re a civilian.”
“Yeah, me too.” He grinned then continued with the
kisses. Again, for a brief moment Janet was lost in
his embrace. This was her only reality. And then she
heard that all too familiar noise.
“Mother!”
Janet pulled away from Daniel’s embrace and smiled
apologetically.
“She’s a little nervous.”
“Why?”
“It’s THE dance of the year and I won’t let her wear
the dress she bought last weekend. So now she is in
there trying to convince me that she has nothing else
to wear.”
“Is it that bad?”
“The dress is beautiful and she knew I wouldn’t let
her wear it so she waited till tonight to show it to
me.”
“Ah” was all Daniel could think of to say. This was
all so new to him.
“Let me go get the next round over with. Jennifer and
her mom will be here any minute, would you mind
letting them in?”
Daniel reached up and stroked Janet’s cheek lightly
and smiled before she turned and met the wrath of her
teenage daughter. Even as she saw Cassie’s
frustration, she still couldn’t help but smile. She
was just so happy now that Daniel was in her life,
hopefully for a very long time, she thought.
“What if I pin the dress so it’s not so revealing?”
Cassie suggested.
“What?” Janet realized she hadn’t been listening.
“Pinning the dress” Cassie repeated.
“Oh, yeah, sure. That’ll work.”
“You ok, mom?”
Janet smiled “I’m great. Really great.”
Cassie could have sworn she heard her mother sigh.
Janet shook her head to clear it “Do you have
everything? Jen and her mom will be here any minute.”
“Is Daniel staying the night?” Cassie asked matter of
fact.
“What?”
“Is Daniel staying the night?” Cassie said as she
gathered the last of her things into her bag. This
really wasn’t as issue with her and Janet hadn’t
realized how nervous she’d been about the evening
until Cassie asked her the question.
“I don’t know. Would you be ok if he did?”
“Mom, don’t worry about it. I’ll stay at Jen’s till
late in the morning so you guys can sleep in…or
whatever.” She grinned.
“Cassie!”
“Well, I just wanted you to know that I was ok with
all this. I mean, it’s about time you guys got
serious.”
“What do you mean ‘its about time’?”
“C’mon, mom, you guys have been making eyes at each
other for months now.”
“We do not ‘make eyes’ at each other.”
“Whatever.”
“No, don’t ‘whatever’ me. What do you mean?”
Cassie rolled her eyes “Mom, Jen will be here about…”
she looked at the clock “now.”
And as if on cue, the doorbell rang.
Cassie smiled “See,” then she grabbed her overnight
bag and began to walk out of the room.
“Wait just a second young lady.”
“But they’re here.”
“Daniel can get the door.”
“See, that’s what I mean, he’s answering our door.”
“What are you talking about?”
She rolled her eyes again “Mom, for a doctor you can
be pretty dense sometimes… you and Daniel have just
always been comfortable around each other. And the
last few months I’ve noticed that he looks at you a
lot, I mean, even before you guys were officially
dating… and I’m not the only one who noticed.”
“Who else?”
“Only like everyone we know.”
“So, you start dating and all the sudden you’re the
authority?”
Cassie shrugged one shoulder then smiled “Well, I was
an advanced alien teen.”
“Ah, that explains a lot.” Janet pulled Cassie into a
hug. “I love you.”
“I love you too mom, but I really need to go.”
Janet reluctantly let her go and followed her
downstairs.
Daniel was doing his best at making small talk with
Jennifer. He remembered her scrutiny from last time
and soon realized that it wasn’t going away anytime
soon. He tried to make the best of the situation but
trying to make small talk with a teenager wasn’t
something Daniel thought he would ever have to do in
his life.
As Janet and Cassie entered the room, Daniel stood up
“Wow. Cassie. You look beautiful.”
Cassie actually blushed slightly then walked over,
gave Daniel a hug and whispered in his ear “Welcome to
the family”. She pulled away quickly then joined her
friend Jennifer who was waiting impatiently by the
door.
“C’mon Cassie, my mom’s waiting and she is about to
drive me up the wall.”
The two girls left and Janet finally let out a small
sigh as Daniel pulled her down to sit with him on the
sofa. He pulled her into his arms and let her head
rest on his shoulder.
“So, I guess things are ok with Cassie?”
“Get used to it Daniel. One minute we are arguing like
we hate each other and the next we are having a heart
to heart talk about very grown up things.”
“Grown up things?”
“Girl talk.” She smiled against his chest.
“Ah. I see.”
“She’s growing up so fast, Daniel.”
“Well, not too fast, she still needs her mom to make
sure she doesn’t go out of the house wearing the wrong
dress.”
She laughed, “I guess not. Ok, enough about Cassie…”
she sat up and looked into his eyes “…you and I have
the whole evening to ourselves.”
He leaned in closer to her and spoke softly against
her lips “What did you have in mind, Dr. Fraiser?”
before he placed a small kiss on them.
She returned the kiss “Well, Dr. Jackson, I thought we
might talk.”
He kissed her again, and then one more. “Just talk?”
Another kiss, lingering a little longer. “Yeah, talk
and…” she deepened the kiss and leaned back on the
sofa pulling Daniel with her.
“Oh, yeah, I like this talking.”
…And then things really heated up.
Janet thought that maybe they might have a little
dinner first, and then talk about how they feel about
each other and then the evening would lead to
something more passionate.
She really didn’t think they’d get THAT out of the way
first.
But she really didn’t mind.
She snuggled up even closer to Daniel, enjoying the
sensation of his bare skin against hers. He responded
by tightening his hold around her and pulling her
closer. The evening was still young and he didn’t
have plans of going to sleep any time soon.
Daniel moved to his side a little so that he could see
Janet’s eyes. All he knew was that he just wanted to
hold her and touch her and tell her “I love you.”
There. It was out in the open. There was no turning
back and Daniel knew it. He’d been in love with her
for a while now and he felt a slight relief at finally
saying the words. Janet just stared at him and he
thought for a moment that maybe he’d moved things too
fast. He was just about to give her ‘the out’ when
she smiled. And not just any smile, it was the smile
of a woman who was truly happy and…in love.
“I love you.”
He just laughed. He couldn’t help it, he was just so
damn happy. After the last several years, he never
thought he’d find this kind of happiness again but
now, the woman he loved was lying in his arms
returning his love. She had welcomed him into her
home and into her family.
He kissed her on the lips. A gentle, loving kiss, with
a promise of more. “So…” he began, a glint in his eye
“…when did you first realize?”
“What? That I was in love with you?”
“Yeah.” Another small kiss on the lips.
“Well, last night Sam sort of helped me realize it.
But I think I have been for a while.”
“Really?” He raised his eyebrows and grinned.
“Yeah, when we thought SG-1 died on the mission to
destroy Apophis’s ship. When I thought you were dead,
for real this time,” she smiled “well, I was more
devastated than I thought I would be.”
“So that’s why you were so attentive to me in the
infirmary.”
“I wasn’t any more attentive than you needed.”
“Right. You know, Jack even noticed that I was getting
better treatment.”
“That man complains about everything.”
“Well, he and Teal’c took me out last night.”
“And?”
“And they were the ones who got me to admit that I
loved you.”
“So you realized it last night?”
“Yeah.”
“Do you get the feeling our friends were playing cupid?”
“Jack O’Neill playing cupid?”
“I’ve seen stranger things.”
“I haven’t.”
“You have to admit that it’s more than a coincidence.”
“I suppose. But I think I’ve been in love with you
longer than just since last night.”
“Oh, really? And when did you first fall under my
charms?” she began kissing his neck which he really
really liked, he decided. Yes, he really really liked
that, especially when she got to his earlobe.
“Umm, you can’t do that and expect me to carry on a
conversation.”
She stopped. “Sorry.”
“Uh, we don’t have to talk.”
“No. I want to know when you first fell for me.”
“Ok, if I tell you will you do that thing you just did?”
“We’ll see. Depends on your answer.”
He looked into her eyes and began stroking her hair.
“It was after that same mission. You were so nice to
come home to. I found myself wanting to be in the
infirmary more.”
“That’s not hard with you guys.”
He smiled knowingly. “That’s when I started to
realize that I had feelings for you. Then when there
was the trouble with Cassie, I just wanted to take
your pain away and take care of you. Take care of the
both of you, I think.”
Janet smiled. She was glowing.
“So, how was that answer?” He raised his eyebrows
suggestively.
“Very good answer” and with that she began to do his
new favorite thing. He was under her spell in no
time. But then, he thought, she’s had me under her
spell for a long time.
~*~
As the morning sun came through the bedroom window,
Daniel watched Janet sleeping. He couldn’t believe
that this was going to be his life from now on. He’d
been through so much pain in his life and now things
were going right for a change. So things wouldn’t be
normal with the jobs they had but they had each other
and he realized he could overcome anything with this
woman by his side.
He quietly eased out of her arms and got out of bed.
She mumbled something to which he responded with
soothing words while stroking her hair. He finally
found his boxer shorts on the other side of the room.
He just had to grin as he slipped them on; it had been
a wonderfully passionate night.
Daniel hunted around in the kitchen for some coffee.
After several futile attempts, he realized that her
secret special blend wouldn’t be in the obvious
places. So he looked in all the least obvious places
and was soon rewarded with a bag of coffee beans
labeled ‘Daniel’s favorite’. He was filled with an
over helming feeling of warmth and affection as he set
about making the morning coffee.
As the coffee began brewing he heard footsteps coming
down the hall. Janet arrived in the kitchen wearing
only his shirt, and barely buttoned at that. Ah, he
really really really loved this woman. He found
himself wanting to forget about the brewing coffee and
just sweep her up in his arms and take her back to
bed. She was just wearing his shirt, what was it that
was so damn sexy about her wearing only his shirt.
It was the fact that it was the ONLY thing she was
wearing.
She sidled up next to him and pulled two coffee mugs
out of the cabinet.
“Good morning.” She said as she moved around him,
pulling out the sugar and some spoons. He just
watched her moving about the kitchen…nothing on but
that shirt. Nothing on but that shirt.
Nothing on but that shirt.
“Ok, either you go put on some real clothing or I have
to do this…” He backed her up against the counter;
hands on either side gripping the edge, then kissed
her soundly on the mouth.
Once she was finally able to pull away and come up for
air she just smiled “Oh, well, then I guess I’ll just
go get dressed.”
She started to walk away when he pulled her back onto
his arms. “Not so fast.” And then he kissed her again
until she was sure her knees were going to buckle.
“You know…” she finally managed to find a way to
actually form words with the mouth he just kissed.
“…its nearly 9:00, I have to go pick Cassie up soon.”
This sobered him up a little. Just a little.
“Right. So we…” he continued to kiss her lips, her
neck, her shoulders as he slipped the shirt over them.
“Yeah. We have to…” she wrapped her arms around his
waist, pulling him closer.
And then the phone rang.
How she ever pulled away from him and answered it, she
will never know.
“Hello.” She managed to say as Daniel stood behind
her, continuing his kissing of her soft shoulders. He
really really liked her shoulders.
“Sam.” She said to let Daniel know who was on the
phone and that maybe he should stop what he was doing.
No, he shouldn’t stop. Wait, he should, she was on
the phone.
She pulled away “Hi.”
“How are you?” Sam asked
“I’m fine, um, can I, um…” she forgot for a split
second she was talking on the phone when Daniel kissed
her on the back of her neck, just where she liked it.
He did that deliberately and she didn’t know whether
to be mad or not. Oh, definitely not. Wow.
“Janet? Are you still there?”
“Yeah, Sam, I’m here. Can I call you back?”
“Sure. Nothing important. You sure you’re ok?”
Janet smiled “Oh yeah, I’m doing great….” Then he
kissed her there once more “…gotta go, bye.” And she
hung up the phone and turned to face Daniel.
“Ok, Dr. Jackson, you are going to get it. I have half
an hour before have to go get Cassie, so you better
make the most of it.”
“Oh, I plan to.” And then he did what he wanted to do
only a few minutes earlier…he swept her up in his arms
and took her back to bed. Ah, the things he was going
to do in the next half hour.
~*~
Sam stared at the phone and smiled as she placed it
back in the hook.
“So…”Jack began with a twinkle in his eye. Yep, that
was definitely a twinkle, Sam realized. “…was I
right?”
“Oh, yeah, he’s there alright.”
Jack smiled and leaned back in his seat. “Ok Major,
you owe me one coffee, and I don’t want that stuff in
the commissary.”
“Well, I do have work to do.”
“It’s Sunday morning and if I am going to help you
with this project then we need to get some real
coffee.”
“You really “ she stressed the ‘really’ “don’t need to
help me, sir.”
“Nonsense, and let you take all the credit. C’mon,
I’ll drive.“
“We could try to find Janet’s stash.” She suggested.
Sam had so much work to do and now the Colonel wanted
to go running all over town looking for coffee.
“And remember what happened last time we tried to find it?”
“Oh, yeah, I guess we don’t want that to happen again.”
“No, Major, we don’t. Grab your coat and let’s go.”
“Yes, sir.” She sighed, grabbed her coat and followed
him out the door. Now, remind me again why I’m in
love with this man, she thought.
~*~
“Now I really need to get up and go get Cassie.”
Janet finally managed to pry herself out of Daniel’s
arms and begin getting dressed. He watched her move
around the room, throwing on a pair of jeans and a
sweater. It was back to this wonderful reality.
Janet looked over at him as he watched her. She
couldn’t remember ever being this happy. She’d gone
from coming home to an empty house to coming home to a
wonderful daughter and soon, she figured, she’d get to
come home to this wonderful man. Sure, she saw him
all the time at work, but that was different. She
smiled at the thought of seeing him here in her house
at the end of the day.
“What’re you smiling at?” Daniel asked.
She sat down on the bed. “I was just thinking how nice
it is to have you here. How it just seems right.”
He took her hand in his and held them tight “I see a
wonderful future ahead of me with you in my life.”
“So, you’re in this for the long haul?”
“Yeah. I will always be here for you and for Cassie.
I love you.”
“I love you too.” Then she leaned over and gave him a
kiss. She smiled and thought ‘so this is the
beginning of my new life…another defining moment.
The end.
