DISCLAIMER: nothing belongs to me! please don't sue me! and if you're
thinking about it... bite me!
AUTHOR'S NOTES: Thanks to Kat!!! You're awesome!
I am drunk. No I don’t mean a little tipsy, I mean REALLY drunk.
I’m out with SG-1 for a mini-celebration after their latest close call. The
evening starts out fine, we are all relaxed and having a good time. Then
the waitress starts hitting on Daniel and I decide I need a drink.
I can see Sam watching me out of the corner of my eye as I suddenly switch
from ice tea to tequila shots. I know she suspects the reason but I don’t
care; as long as everyone else is heedless I’m ok.
A little later she leans over to me and whispers, “You should ask him to
dance.”
“I think I need another drink first,” I whisper back. I knock back another
shot and decide I need another… and another… and another.
By this time the others have started to notice my unusual drinking and are
beginning to look at me oddly. “Hey Doc, enjoying yourself there?” Jack
asks.
Sam chuckles beside me and I glare at her. For some one in a similar
situation to mine, you would think she’d be a little more supportive. “I’m
just peachy,” I reply. Then I have a thought… “But Sammy here wants to
dance, why don’t you ask her?” I smile sweetly. Word of warning: don’t
cross me when I’m drunk, I get mean.
Sam pales visibly and gives me a death stare that could wilt flowers. Jack
almost blushes, but evidently can’t think of a reason to gracefully say no.
He holds out his hand, Sam hesitantly takes it and they proceed to the dance
floor.
I smile wickedly.
“What was that about?” Daniel asks.
I roll my eyes at him. “You are so oblivious!”
“What’s that suppose to mean?” Daniel asks.
“Oh nothing,” I mumble.
The waitress comes over again. Kat, as her nametag proclaims, smiles
sweetly at Daniel. I fight back my reflex to gag. She isn’t completely
stupid though, because she notices my nasty looks and is wise enough to
leave, but not before she leans over and whispers something to Daniel. I,
being drunk, take the logical action: I sulk.
I glance out to the dance floor and notice Sam and Jack totally engrossed in
each other. Wonderful. My brilliant plan of revenge has backfired on me.
There is no way those two will be coming back to the table.
So that left me, Daniel and Teal’c. Oh wait, scratch that, Teal’c just got
asked to dance. That’s it, it is now official, EVERYONE is getting action
except me. I bang my head on the table. Daniel is probably giving me a
weird look, but I don’t notice. All I care about is wallowing in my drunken
self-pity.
“Janet are you all right?” Daniel asks.
‘No, Daniel, I’m not,” I say, my face still planted in the table. See, if
I’m not looking at him, I can pretend I’m not talking to him and then maybe
I can say what I’ve been meaning to for weeks.
“Are you drunk?”
“I’m not sure, but let’s consider this a sobriety test.”
“A sobriety test?” I can tell by his tone, he hasn’t got a clue what’s
going on.
“Yes,” I confirm. “If I can get through this without losing my nerve, I am
definitely NOT sober.” I take a deep breath and look at Daniel, his brow
furrowed in that adorable baffled look he gets. “Daniel…” I swear I AM
going to tell him how I felt, really I am. “Do you wanna dance?” I guess I
need a few more shots.
“Sure.” He smiles and proffers his hand.
It’s slow dance when we get out to the dance floor. Daniel puts his arms
around my waist and holds me close, which even without my highly inebriated
state would fell blissful. I, Miss Ultra-observant, couldn’t even tell you
what song is playing, I am so engrossed in this man next to me.
“Wanna try it again?” he asks, calling back my wandering mind.
“Try what?”
“The sobriety test.”
I pull back to look at him, but his arms hold me tight. He smiles at me
with a slight mischievous twinkle in his eye and I wonder how much he really
knows.
“Well considering how fast the room is spinning I’d say I’m not too sober,
so I might as well,” I say. I take another deep breath. Ok, tequila, don’t
fail me now. “I was wondering if you would like to go out with me
sometime?”
His eyebrows rise slightly, that was obviously not what he is expecting.
“You really are drunk,” he says.
“What’s that suppose to mean?” I ask, harshly.
“Oh nothing,” he mumbles. “Just that Sam said we’d have to get you totally
wasted before you’d say anything.”
As I’ve said, I’m drunk, so at the moment what Daniel is saying to me isn’t
making a whole lot of sense. I just stare at him blankly. The tequila must
be catching up to me, because my head is getting foggier by the second. I
have most definitely failed the sobriety test.
... the end...
