“Wow. Ok, from now on, you can only find sick people on planets like *this*,” Janet declared, stepping through the Stargate. In front of her stretched beautiful white sand beaches for as far as the eye could see.

“Well, that’ll work, since the Colonel declared from now on we can only ‘Gate to planets like *this*,” Sam replied as they walked. “And it would make for nice relaxing missions, but probably not very productive ones, seeing as they natives don’t have very advanced technology, haven’t seen the Goa’uld in centuries and therefore have little need for an alliance or weapons against them, and believe completely in living in the present so don’t even have any artifacts or history books we can learn from.”

“Ooh, bet Daniel’s bored out of his mind.”

“Oh yeah, but not for long now that you’re here.”

“Now what’s that supposed to mean?”

“Let’s just say that your medical expertise on this mission wasn’t quite as urgent as we made it sound…and I wasn’t the one who suggested requesting you.” Sam smiled wickedly.

Janet looked at the taller woman suspiciously. “Just what were you doing last night that you had to guilt poor Daniel into bringing Cassie and me pizza?”

“First of all, I didn’t have to guilt him and secondly, I believe the excuse I used was I had to wash my hair. Well, here’s the village. You go in and see to the, um, sick, and come out to meet us for the luau when you’re done!” With a wave of her hand, Sam motioned Janet towards some huts, then took off in the opposite direction before Janet had a chance to say anything.

Sam wasn’t kidding, there was indeed a luau. Or as close as this culture could get while not actually being Hawaiian. There were torches lighting up nearly the entire beach as the sun slowly set, food, dancers, and very festive music. There was even a larger roasted… something.

“So, Doc, what’s the prognosis?” Jack asked as Janet walked up to SG-1, all of whom were chowing down on the roasted something.

“Looks like food poisoning from poorly cooked meat,” Janet replied. She really did try to hide her laughter as everyone but Teal’c spit out the ‘something’.

“Yeah you sure know how to ruin a party, Janet,” Sam complained.

“By the way, I wouldn’t drink the local brew either,” Janet suggested as she investigated the non-dangerous food on the platters in front of them.

Sam, Jack and Teal’c all froze and peered at their drinks. “Uh, why’s that?” Jack asked.

Janet looked up at them, suddenly quite worried. “Oh, tell me you didn’t! Ya know, as a team that goes of world on a daily basis, one would imagine you’d learn not to eat or drink the local cuisine until it’d been checked out. Especially after what happened on P3X-595.” She directed the last remark at Sam, getting a nasty look in return.

“I didn’t drink any,” Daniel pitched in.

“Good, then at least two of us will be sober tonight.” Janet sighed and plopped down beside him on the sand.

“My symbiote will not allow me to become inebriated, DoctorFraiser,” Teal’c assured her.

Janet grimaced. “Don’t count on it.”

“Aren’t you overreacting, Doc? We feel fine.” Jack sniffed at the substance in his cup, which he’d already refilled twice, and made a face.

“Just wait.”

* * * * *

“Are all your missions this much fun?” Janet grunted.

“Well, usually *I’m* the one unconscious,” Daniel replied. He too was breathing hard as the two of them were each holding on to an arm, dragging a dead-drunk colonel down the dark beach. The luau had ended with most of the attendees drunk, but while the natives had known the power of the ‘moonshine’ and therefore could still walk home on their own, most of SG-1 hadn’t and now couldn’t. That’s how Janet and Daniel ended up not-too-carefully lugging their teammates back to their accommodations in the middle of the night.

They reached the small hut the villagers had been kind enough to lend them and tossed Jack onto the floor beside Sam and Teal’c, whom they’d already dumped there. They didn’t look very comfortable but Daniel and Janet were beyond caring. Instead the two exhausted humans, now wide-awake from their unwanted physical exertion, left the drunkards behind and wandered out into the cool night air.

Janet walked about halfway to the shore, then sat down in the sand and rested her arms on her knees. She let the breeze wash over her and closed her eyes in appreciation, completely unaware of Daniel watching her intently. He still stood by the door to the hut, also enjoying the light wind, but enjoying the view far more. He watched her for a few minutes before realizing that there was a better alternative.

Janet opened her eyes when felt a hand slide into hers. She hadn’t even heard him approach, but looking up, found him standing over her, leaning down to take her hand. She must have had a confused look on her face because he smiled softly and said, “Take a walk with me?”

She smiled back and let him pull her up and gently lead her down to the shoreline. Janet idly noticed that he didn’t release her hand as they walked, a gesture that intrigued her. The waves crashed along the beach and every one and a while would reach out to grab at their feet, drenching their lower legs. They talked softly for a while, discussing this and that, but eventually fell into a comfortable silence as they watched the moonbeams dance across the water.

Finally they turned and headed back, much to Janet’s disappointment, despite the fact that her body was screaming at her for sleep. She shivered slightly as the waves lapped at her feet again, but didn’t care in the least. She could have been freezing to death and wouldn’t have noticed. When Daniel suddenly removed his hand from hers though, she noticed immediately, and didn’t like it at all. She was mentally berating herself for expecting such a wonderful thing to last when he slipped his arm around her waste and pulled her closer. Resting her head on his shoulder as they walked she asked, “Do we really have to go back? They’re going to be in terrible moods when they wake up tomorrow.”

“Yes, but they’re our friends, remember?”

“Humph, we’ve got horrid friends,” Janet complained.

“Oh, I don’t know. I think you’re a pretty wonderful friend.”

Daniel was still looking straight ahead as they neared the hut, but Janet lifted her head so she could study his face. “Just a friend?”

They reached their makeshift front door and Daniel pulled Janet around to look at her. Looping his other arm around her waist as well, he smiled down at her. “No, not just a friend.”

“Despite the fact that this evening did not go quite as I’d predicted, thanks for keeping the date.”

Daniel raised his eyebrows curiously. “Date?”

“You said you’d save me from Felicity, and dragging me off-world at the last minute did that quite effectively,” Janet explained. She rested her hands on his arms, playing with the patches on his jacket as she verbally toyed with him.

Daniel blushed slightly. “Well the villagers didn’t know what had infected their sick and I thought it would be a good set in intergalactic relations if we volunteered aid, so…”

“So it *was* you who convinced Colonel O’Neill to send for me!” Janet smiled triumphantly.

Daniel glared at her slightly as he realized he’d been tricked, but as he lacked all ability to stay mad at her, it didn’t last long. “Well, um… I suppose… ok, yes, it was me.”

“Then thank you,” she said sweetly. Raising up on her tippy-toes, she placed a soft kiss on his cheek, then slipped out of his arms and duck inside the hut.

Daniel didn’t move for a good minute, though he couldn’t help but smile. Finally, running a hand through his hair distractedly, he followed her inside.

the end... for now...
