AUTHOR'S NOTES: My Thanks to Bryn who said it was good so if it sucks, blame her. And also to Rae and Aislynn for Betaing it for me. And My Mom who also did more beta work or me and made me laugh like crazy because she knows Nothing about the series. She had a million questions to ask, the explainations of which are longer than this piece of Fiction. And again, thanks to Rae (or was it Aislynn)for giving me the title. the three of you girls absolutely Rock (and My Mom does Too!)

Through the darkness
I can see your light
And you will always shine
And I can feel your heart in mine
Your face I've memorized
I idolize just you

She lay on her side in the big bed, her head propped up on her hand as she watched him sleep. He looked much younger than his 36 years. How she loved him! In truth, she had loved him from the first, but until now never dared entertain thoughts of that love.

She had been assigned to the SGC just prior to Daniel's return from Abydos. While he was devastated by the loss of his wife, he was determined to find her. They had become friends almost immediately. She had to be content with being his friend, his confidante. Through everything he had endured, she had been there for him. In spirit only at times, but she had always been there.

I look up to
Eerything you are
In my eyes you do no wrong
I've loved you for so long
And after all that is said and done
You're still you
After all
You're still you

Daniel was often the voice of reason; he was calm at times that were anything but calm. If not for that voice of reason and logic, Earth would have been attacked by the Goa'uld. Its people killed or taken as slaves. The planet destroyed.

He and SG-1 had been the planet's savior on more than one occasion. Since he wasn't part of military, there was no formal recognition for him as there was for Colonel O'Neill and Major Carter. Even Teal'c gained satisfaction knowing the closer they came to defeating their mutual enemy, the closer he came to freeing his people forever.

Daniel didn't mind the lack of attention. He could have cleared his academic name years before, proving to his colleagues that his theories had been correct all along. He could have made a name for himself by bringing the secret treasures found on other worlds to the public attention. His integrity was such that these ideas never occurred to him. He was content to know that his research and theories had been correct; he felt no need to prove this to others.

She admired that about him. He was a good man. He had lost so much. He deserved all the love she could give him. She was glad she now had her chance.

You walk past me
I can feel your pain
Time changes everything
One truth always stays the same
You're still you
After all
You're still you

For nearly three years he focused on searching for his beloved wife. What hardships he had endured! When Sha're had been gone a year, Daniel kept his promise to return to Abydos. He went to tell her father he had not found her. Instead, he was surprised to find her there, with her father. She was Sha're, not Amaunet. She was also nine months pregnant with Apophis' child. He had delivered the baby, and then he watched as Sha're disappeared as Amaunet once again took control of her body and mind. He and the rest of SG-1 remained hidden as Amaunet joined Apophis, and left through the stargate.

Forced to hide the child from both Heru'ur and Apophis, Daniel could only pray that he would be safe, and well cared for. He felt that one day, the child may well be able to share information with them to help defeat his father and return his mother to him. That was not to be. Amaunet was intent on killing him when Teal'c took her life to save his. He mourned Sha'res'death, but deep in his heart he knew that her death had been inevitable. She would never have been his again. At least she no longer suffered from the captivity she could not hope to escape.

They had almost lost Daniel on several missions as well. He had nearly died on Apophis' ship, trying to save Earth from invasion. They had almost lost him to Nim as well. Through it all he was still Daniel. Sweet, dependable, give-his-life-to-save-yours, Daniel. Was it any wonder that he smote all the women on base? She felt blessed that he cared for her.

I look up to everything you are
In my eyes you do no wrong
And I believe in you
Although you never asked me to
I will remember you
And what life put you through
And in the cruel and lonely world
I found one love
You're still you
After all
You're still you

He hadn't yet spoken of love. It was probably too early for that. What if he were to leave or die? Now that she had taken this step, could she survive not having him in her life? No! She shouldn't let her thoughts stray in that direction. She knew it was her defense mechanisms kicking in. She had never loved or admired anyone more. She had to believe that the hardships he had endured were at an end. They had each other now. She no longer needed to keep her feelings for him hidden. She could tell him just how wonderful she thought he was. Yes, they could have a wonderful life together. If all that had happened to him hadn't changed him, the good things in life could only make their relationship better. She couldn't wait to share her thoughts and feelings with him.

She rolled closer to him and pressed her lips to his warm, smooth shoulder. His eyes opened, focused on her face and a smile lit both his face and eyes.

"I love you, Janet."
