CATEGORY: PWP, D/J Romance, Challenge response
PAIRING: Daniel/Janet
SPOILERS: None.
RATING: PG
CONTENT WARNINGS: Umm... not a whole lot. Mild sexual references.
SUMMARY: Janet's not having a very good day, and she's definitely
not in the mood to celebrate Christmas.

DISCLAIMER: Ugh. They're not mine. Okay? Have we all got that? Is
there anyone here that really thought I owned these characters? I
didn't think so. They're owned by, say it with me now, MGM, Double
Secret Productions, and Gekko. Any questions?
AUTHOR'S NOTES: The challenge was to write a D/J fic containing:
* excessive use of tinsel
* a nativity scene
* the song/carol "Please Come Home For Christmas"
* a Santa sack/bag (bonus points for someone in a full Santa suit)
* someone saying "Well THAT was unexpected."
* Danny and Janet kissing
Merry Christmas!
'Why?' Janet pounded the steering wheel in frustration as the
thought repeated itself over and over in her brain. 'Why Why Why
WhyWhyWhyWHY?!!!'
She pressed her foot to the accelerator again as the light turned
green, speeding through the intersection a lot faster than she
probably should have.
Why did she have to kiss him? What a stupid, insane, brainless,
idiotic thing to do. Why, dammit? WhyWhyWhyWhyWHY...
She flicked on the radio to drown out the annoying mantra inside
her head.
~...It's the most wonderful time of the year...~
Yup, that was all she needed. More Christmas cheer. It was
Christmas that had got her in to this mess. If it wasn't for
Christmas, there would never have been mistletoe hanging in the
doorway to his office and then she wouldn't have kissed him and
why did he have to go and hang that stupid plant in his doorway
anyway? She flicked angrily at the radio to switch stations.
~...And so this is Christmas, and what have you done?...~
That was a question she'd rather not contemplate, thank you very
much. She flicked the button irritatedly.
~...Christmas time; Mistletoe and wine...~
Oh no, just the mistletoe was enough, she didn't even *need* the
wine. She changed the station.
~I saw Mummy kissing Santa Claus...~
Well, at least *his* response had to have been a little better
than "Well THAT was unexpected." Yup, just the kind of answer she
was looking for, especially when closely followed by a hasty
retreat down the corridor. She'd made him run away from his own
office. Nice going, Janet. She quickly changed the station again.
~...It's Christmas time, my dear; the time of year to be with the
one you love...~
This was a conspiracy. It had to be. Giving up on the radio, she
left it playing 'Please Come Home For Christmas', and focused her
concentration instead on not crashing into the car in front as she
searched with growing frustration for somewhere to park.
She should have known better than to leave her Christmas shopping
until the week before Christmas, the mall was crowded and parking
spaces were rare. Another good move on her part. Boy, she was just
full of those, today.
Finally finding a space about ten light years from where she wanted
to be, she cursed under her breath as she got out and slammed the
door. Someone had set up a nativity scene. Too bad she hadn't
noticed it *before* she'd reversed into Joseph.
The sound of a ringing bell and a jolly 'Ho Ho Ho' irritated her
as she lifted the heavy mannequin back to his place beside Mary.
"Hey, you need any help there little lady?" the Santa asked
cheerfully as he passed, shifting the red bag supposedly full of
toys on his shoulder. He was saved only by the fact that her hands
were full with trying to prevent Joseph from toppling over onto
his virgin wife, which she didn't think would be a very good way
to leave things.
Taking a deep breath, she forced herself to calm and climbed back
into the car. She'd do her shopping tomorrow, right now she was
going home.
At least, she would have been going home, had there not been a
truck now blocking her way. She barely managed to refrain from
screaming her frustration and instead got out of the car to shoot
daggers at the men pulling boxes off the back of the vehicle.
"Oh, sorry Ma'am," one of them finally noticed her, "we'll be out
of your way in a second. Just need to get the rest of these
decorations unloaded."
He was way too cheerful for her liking.
She sighed and got back into the car, resigning herself to another
half hour of watching three men pull two hundred boxes of tinsel
off a truck. Like the place wasn't already buried in a mountain of
red, gold, silver and green as it was, where were they possibly
going to fit any more?
'This day just keeps getting better,' she grumbled as strains of
'Lonely This Christmas', filtered through the open windows of
the truck.
'None of this would be happening if it wasn't for Daniel and his
stupid mistletoe', she resolved firmly. 'If he didn't want to be
kissed he shouldn't have put it there in the first place.'
She liked that argument, and she decided that the little voice in
her head made sense. It really wasn't her fault.
'Of course, he probably didn't expect his doctor to come along and
stick her tongue down the back of his--' She squashed the thought
under the mental debris that was her sanity and told the little
voice to shut up.
Finally, the truck moved and she was on her way, looking forward
to climbing into a hot bath and forgetting that it was Christmas at
all.
The fact that Daniel was waiting for her on her doorstep was a
slight hitch in that plan, she decided.
"Janet..." he started, and she moved passed him to unlock the
door. She wasn't ignoring him on purpose, but she had no idea what
to say. She left it open for him to enter, and for once was glad
that Cassie was out as he shut it behind him.
"Daniel," she started, "I'm sorry about... I mean today I just...
it's just that we..." She couldn't seem to complete a sentence.
"I'm sorry if I... what are you doing?" She had backed into a
wall, and only just realised that he'd been advancing on her the
whole time she was trying to speak.
"Putting us both out of our misery," was his answer before his
lips claimed hers, gentle and exploratory as his hands came to
rest at her waist. He deepened the kiss, his tongue sliding into
her mouth to duel with her own and her arms twined around his neck
seemingly of their own accord.
He held her tighter, one hand sliding around to the small of her
back while the other moved up to tangle in her hair.
As confused as she was about what the hell was going on, she
couldn't help but smile as the kiss finally ended. "Well, that
was unexpected."
He grinned as she threw his earlier words back at him, pressing a
kiss to her forehead. "I'm sorry about that," he told her
sincerely. "It's just that when you kissed me... I haven't felt
that way since Sha're and it scared me."
She nodded her understanding, a slight smile still tugging at the
corners of her mouth. "So are you still scared?"
His smile turned mischievous, his hands sliding under the hem of
her shirt and up her back, toying with the clasp of her bra. "I'm
a lot of things right now, but scared isn't one of them."
"Cassie's staying at a friend's place."
"Oh, you'd better not be kidding."
