"Come on Janet, you'll love it!"

"But Sam --"

"NO BUTS, Janet! You've been working far too much lately! You keep harping on me to do stuff outside of work, and yet YOU don't listen to your own advice! Come on, it's not like it would be something terrible like filling out paperwork!"

Doctor Janet Fraiser, CMO of the SGC and Major Samantha Carter's friend, sighed deeply as she leaned back in her chair. She and Sam were sitting across from one another in the commissary, eating some blue jello for dessert. It had been a rather hectic week for Janet; she had decided to completely rebuild her filing system whilst simultaneously treating SG-3, SG-8 and SG-9 for minor smoke inhalation due to raging forest fires on P4X-673. She sighed, knowing that Sam had a point; work and Cassie took up all of her time, leaving nothing for herself. She leaned forward again, a resigned look upon her face.

"I guess you're right," Janet sighed.

Sam grinned. "Of course I'm right. Just go ask the General for some downtime, I'm sure he'd understand."

Janet nodded. "I actually have quite a lot of leave. I can get Doctor Warner and the senior nurses to handle everyone in the infirmary at the moment." She stood up, collecting her papers and writing utensils. She sniffed. "Actually, Sam, Im starting to look forward to this. Thanks for suggesting it."

Sam nodded. "What are you going to do _afterwards_?" She got a crafty, evil look on her face. "Maybe you should ask a certain archaeologist over to see if they did a good job."

Janet got a resolute look on her face. That was one thing Sam LOVED to needle her about; no matter how many times she tried to deny it, Sam seemed to think that Daniel Jackson had a thing for Janet, and that Janet did likewise. Sure, there had been times when she felt like he was more than a friend, and she was pretty sure that sometimes he did the same, but she just didn't think there was really anything there that could be developed.

Janet groaned inwardly, knowing that only one response would shut Sam up. 'Ah, what the hell,' she thought. 'Daniel seems like a safe bet. At least he's someone I could have an intelligent conversation with, instead of the military lunkheads around here.' She rolled her eyes and said, "All, right, fine. I'll _ask_ him if he'd like to come over afterwards and see how good a job they did."

Sam grinned and jumped out of her seat. "Great, Janet. I just KNOW that Daniel will like what he sees.

Janet mock-scowled. "He'd better!"

Janet knocked on General Hammond's door. She heard him call out, "Come in." She opened the door and walked into his office. She sat down in the chair across from his desk.

The General put down a document he was reading and said, "Hello, Doctor, what can I do for you?"

Janet said, "I'd like to request some leave, sir."

"For what reason?" the General asked.

Janet took a breath and said, "I've realized that I've been working a bit too hard lately, sir. I'd like to take some time off and recuperate for a while."

The General nodded. "Understandable, Doctor. You of all people should certainly deserve some time off. Are you sure there won't be any manpower issues?"

Janet nodded. "As long as there are no major medical emergencies, I think Doctor Warner and my senior nurses can handle most of the cases. And, " she patted her side where her pager was, "it's not like I'm ever out of contact."

The General nodded once more, the look on his face showing that he understood only too well what Janet meant. He leaned back in his chair and said, "Well, Doctor, if there are no further problems with staffing, I see no reason why not. How much time do you want off, anyway?"

Janet replied that she wanted the rest of just this week. Since it was Tuesday,
the General saw no problems and granted it.

"Thank you sir," said Janet.

"No problem, Doctor. Enjoy yourself," the General replied as he turned back to his work.

Janet smiled inwardly as she passed out of the General's office. Oh, she would......

When Janet got home that day, the very first thing she did was grab the pamphlet that Sam had passed to her a few days back. It was a brochure for a local beauty salon, Terry's, that specialized in makeovers and wardrobe advice. Sam had been bugging her for a while to go do it, to indulge in something sinfully female; something that did not revolve around Ancient artifacts or doctoring people or _working_ in general. Only now did she see how right Sam was; she was going to enjoy it no matter what.

She called the number that she found on the back of the pamphlet, and after two rings got a response.

"Terry's Beauty Salon."

"Hi, this is Janet Fraiser, and I'd like to schedule a makeover for Friday, please."

"All right then. I have 10:30, 1:30 and 2:00. Which appointment is best for you?"

"2:00 please."

"Very well. And what sort of makeover would you like?"

Janet consulted the pamphlet, which listed several different things that Terry's Beauty Salon could do to anyone who asked. She consulted the list and found the perfect entry."

"I'd like the Beauty-Enhancing Makeover, please."

"OK, then. All set. Friday at 2:00, Miss Fraiser."

Janet thanked the woman and hung up. She looked around her house, a rather dilapidated affair, owing to the presence of one very teenagery teenager. She sighed and decided that the first Non-Work-Related thing she would do......was clean.

****

'Wow, a clean house is so wonderful,' Janet thought to herself when she came
downstairs the next day, enjoying her extra two hours of sleep. Cassie was already downstairs brewing coffee for Janet when she stepped into the kitchen, wearing a bathrobe and fuzzy slippers.

"Morning, Mom," Cassie said, hugging Janet and returning to her breakfast of toast, orange juice and coffee.

Janet smiled and began her regular coffee infusion. When the hot liquid finally squeegeed the cobwebs out of her head, she looked at Cassie and said, "I'm going to be on downtime the next few days, Cassie. Is there anything you would like to do?"

Cassie shrugged. "Wanna see a movie?"

Janet pondered that. God, when was the last time she went to see a movie? At times she felt like she was in one...... "Sure, why not," Janet replied, plonking down next to her daughter. "Anytime but Friday is good."

"Friday?" Cassie asked. "Why Friday?"

"I have.... plans."

"What sort of plans?" Cassie asked, shifting into her Information-Gathering Mode that Janet knew all sixteen-year-olds possessed.

"I made an appointment at Terry's Beauty Salon for a Beauty-Enhancing Makeover at 2:00 on Friday."

"Terry's? Wow! Sarah's mom got one of those done and she looked really really great! Sarah told me how her dad reacted when he saw her; he was totally out of it. She was almost drop-kicked out of the house," Cassie finished with a giggle.

Janet felt like giggling, too. If they were so skilled, maybe Daniel would do the same thing. Janet smiled inwardly at the thought of Daniel gaping at her on a date. Of course, getting him to go out with her would have him gaping as well.....

"I'm also thinking about asking Daniel out on a date on Friday night as well," Janet continued. She chopped off the sentence with a sudden "HUH?" inside her head.

Cassie eyes widened. "Daniel? You're gonna ask Daniel Jackson, The _Hunk_, out on a _date_?"

Janet rolled her eyes, sighed dramatically and said, "I'm going to try."

Cassie laughed and hugged Janet, then drew back with a searching look on her face. "Is this why you're going to get that makeover?"

Janet shrugged. "One of the reasons, I guess."

Cassie smiled. Then she suddenly looked at her watch, downed the rest of her orange juice, and grabbed her backpack. "Crap! Mom, I gotta go to the bus stop! Bye!" She ran down the hallway and out the front door, leaving Janet alone.

What would she do first?
****
Janet spent the rest of that day and all of Friday morning with butterflies in her stomach. She was incredibly nervous about her date with Daniel, and she hoped that she wouldn't clam up and find herself unable to speak. She also hoped that Daniel didn't get cold feet at the last minute and back out on her; that would be awful.

Daniel spent most of Friday feeling the same way, despite his attempts to push it into the back of his mind. When he arrived at work he went straight to his office and began working on the P5X-122 artifact, trying to bury himself in work. That is, until Jack arrived...

"Hey Daniel," Jack said, walking straight into his office and leaning up against a chair without a single regard for what Daniel was doing, as usual.

"Good morning, Jack," Daniel said, grabbing a magnifying glass and examining a corner of the artifact.

Jack noticed that Daniel seemed tense, worrisome, and a little bit preoccupied with something. He asked, "What's the matter, Daniel? You look like you're dreading something."

Daniel almost ignored Jack, but then decided that since Janet would tell Sam about her date, and Sam would tell Jack, that there was no point in hiding it. He sat back, looked at Jack and said, "Janet has asked me out on a date for tonight."

Jack gaped at Daniel. "Janet?!? As in Doctor Where's-The-Big-Needle Janet FRAISER?!?!?!?!?" He seemed to be completely surprised at what Daniel had just revealed.

Daniel smiled. "That's right, Jack. Doctor Where's-The-Big-Needle Janet Fraiser. She and I are going out on a date tonight at 6:00."

Jack grinned. "That's great, Daniel! I knew you always had a thing for Fraiser; nice to see that you got the cajones to finally act on it!"

Daniel rolled his eyes. "Sure, Jack. Whatever. Did you need anything else?"

Jack shook his head. "I just came to talk to you. And what a talk we just had!" He walked out, shaking his head. "See you later, Space Monkey!" 'Danny and the Doc,' Jack thought as he walked out of Daniel's office. 'I don't think I saw THAT coming...."

Janet, on the other hand, was busily relating Daniel's words to Sam, who was in her lab with a disassembled doohickey on her workbench.

"Oh my God, Janet, that's so funny!" Sam said, laughing as Janet related Daniel's discomforture and his response to Janet's request. "I can't believe he did that! I also can't believe he accepted!"

"I know, I was shocked as well," Janet replied, sitting on her couch in her family room at home, holding a steaming mug of coffee in one hand and the phone in the other. "And the best part hasn't even come yet!"

"What part?" Sam said, shifting into the adult version of Cassie's Information-Gathering Mode. "What do you mean?"

Janet related what Cassie had said regarding her friend's parents and Terry's, and when she finished, Sam laughed even harder. "Oh my God! Daniel will definitely do the same thing, I just know it! Oh, to be the fly on the wall when Daniel tries to string a sentence together when he sees you!"

Janet lanughed, and the two friends talked some more, before Sam said that she needed to get back to work. Janet bid goodbye to Sam, hung up, and decided to go take a walk before lunch, and the subsequent makeover two hours later.

****

At 1:50 pm, Janet walked into the lobby of Terry's Beauty Salon and strode up to the front desk. The woman behind the counter looked up and smiled.

"Hello ma'am, welcome to Terry's Beauty Salon. How may I help you?"

"My name is Janet Fraiser, and I'm here for a 2:00 appointment," Janet replied.

The woman behind the counter turned to a nearby computer and began typing into it. After a few keystrokes and mouse clicks she turned back to Janet. "All set. If you'll just wait over there," and the woman pointed to some chairs, "someone will be right with you in just a moment."

Janet turned and sat down in the chair that the receptionist showed her, and waited for a few minutes, listening to the sounds of blowdrying, washing, cutting, scratching, and all the other sounds you'd expect to hear in a beauty salon. Her wait wasn't long either, when a tall, well-dressed woman walked out of a doorway and saw Janet sitting there. She walked over to Janet, who had stood up as the woman approached.

"Welcome to Terry's Beauty Salon; my name is Terry," the woman said, greeting Janet.

"I don't suppose you're the owner, are you?" Janet asked.

The woman smiled. "Actually, I am. Owner, main hairdresser, makeover specialist, etc etc etc. You're here for a Beauty-Enhancing Makeover, aren't you?"

Janet nodded. "Indeed I am. I even brought the dress I'd like to wear."

"A dress, huh?" Terry said searchingly. "I don't suppose this is for a special someone, now is it?"

Janet laughed, and replied, "Well, I guess it is, in a way. I have a date tonight, and I'd like to knock his socks off!"

Terry laughed at Janet's words. "Give me three hours and some help from you, and I think we can pull it off. Follow me, please." She turned and walked back through the doorway, Janet following behind. She was definitely going to enjoy this.

Daniel, on the other hand, was enduring the brunt of a double-barreled heckling from Sam and Jack in the commissary. Teal'c, who had joined them a few minutes ago, said nothing.

"Janet told me all about what you said, Daniel," Sam laughed, poking Daniel's hand with her fork. "I knew you would get tongue-tied!"

Daniel tried to protest, but Jack butted in by saying, "What I still can't get over is where the two of you," and he poked Daniel with his fork as well, "got the courage to actually go through with this."

Daniel rolled his eyes and rebutted, "I guess I just decided that I might as well go through with it."

Teal'c spoke up. "I have no doubt that both you and DoctorFraiser will have no difficulties during your meeting tonight, DanielJackson. I wish you well and I hope that you and DoctorFraiser enjoy yourselves."

Daniel smiled and replied, "Thanks, Teal'c. I'll be sure to tell Janet what you said."

Teal'c nodded slightly. Sam asked, "Did she tell you about the makeover?"

Daniel got a puzzled look on her face. "Janet? No, she didn't tell me about any makeover, What do you mean?"

Sam got an Evil Look on her face, turned to Jack and said, "Should I tell him, sir?"

Jack looked at Sam and said, "Tell him what?"

Sam looked at them both and said, "Janet's getting a makeover right now! She also bought a new dress for tonight's date, Daniel! She wants to knock your socks off!"

Daniel leaned back with a look of extreme trepidation on his face. 'Oh, NO. Now I'll definitely not be able to get a word in edgewise?"

Teal'c interjected, "What is a makeover, MajorCarter? And what does the term "knock your socks off", mean O'Neill? I have not heard you utilize that phrase at any point to my knowledge."

Sam and Jack both began to explain, while Daniel put his head in his hands once more. He was royally screwed. He was going to be a complete emotional klutz and totally screw up the date. Suddenly, he felt a surge of courage. He leaned back and thought, 'So what? This isn't some strange woman I have to impress, this is Janet! She and I know each other very well. She understands me, and I understand her. So what if I get tongue-tied? Any man would!'

Daniel stood up and said, "I gotta go, guys. See you later."

Teal'c, Sam and Jack all bid Daniel goodbye and continued their conversation. Daniel turned and walked out of the commissary. He was definitely going to enjoy this.

Daniel got out of his car in front of Janet's house five minutes before six. He looked towards the front of the house and saw that her car was in the driveway, which meant that she was home. He gulped and began walking towards her front door.

He had spent the rest of the afternoon a bit apprehensive about this date, despite his suddent burst of confidence earlier that day. He had gone back to his office to continue to decipher the P5X-122 artifact. Only to discover that he was totally and completely distracted by Non Work-Related Thoughts about what Janet would look like. He had spent an entire hour just sitting in his stool, barely focusing on the artifact, imaginging what she would look like after her supposed makeover. When he saw that it was 4:00, he decided to call it a day, and after bidding goodbye to Sam, Jack and Teal'c, who were now deep in discussion about something having to do with clothes, he left the SGC and went home to his apartment. He spent a half hour trying to decide on what clothes to wear, and eventually decided on an informal dressy outfit, with a dark blue shirt, black trousers and black shoes. Afterwards he had driven in the direction of Janet's place, but stopped just before turning onto her street. He had sat there and waffled for a good ten minutes, before deciding that there was no backing out now, and that he simply had to do it.

All this flashed through his head as he stepped onto Janet's porch and rang the doorbell. He heard Janet call out, "Coming!" and heard the sound of high heels in her front hallway. The door handle turned, and the door opened.

Daniel stared.

Oh.

My.

GOD.

He was utterly speechless.

Oh.

WOW.

Janet was standing in front of him, looking absolutely GORGEOUS.

He.

Could.

Not.

Think.

Terry had done an amazing job on Janet. Her hair was a different shade that complemented her complexion perfectly. Her eyes were rimmed with eyeshadow, her lips sported a shade of lipstick that Daniel had never seen before, and her face was so beautifully made up that it shone.

His eyes moved downward to take in the rest of her outfit.

Bad idea.

Oh.

My.

GOD!

She was wearing a slinky, short red dress that came down to just above her knees, and it had spaghetti straps over her shoulders; from what he could see from the front, it also had a cross-hatch pattern across the back. It fit her perfectly, and accentuated her figure so nicely that it turned Daniel's brain to mush. She had completed her outfit with a small rigid purse and a pair of high heels that were the same shade as her dress.

She was BEAUTIFUL.

And he couldn't think.

OH.

WOW!!!!!

****

Janet stood there, watching as Daniel's mind slowly leaked out of his ears. She was dancing in her head, knowing that her appearance was an unmigitated success. She had agonized over making sure that it was just right when Terry had finished her work. She had been assured by Terry that she was absolutely gorgeous, and that whomever she intended to see that night was going to like what they saw. Cassie had assured her of the exact same thing, repeatedly telling Janet that Daniel would absolutely love her appearance and that his socks would probably "fly off like cannonballs!" Just before she had run out the door to go sleep over at a friend's house for some reason or another, she had looked back at Janet, dressed impeccably in her outfit, and had said, "Good luck, Mom. Daniel will just LOVE being with you tonight!"

So Janet had trusted all of their opinions.

And they were right.

'Daniel's looking very hot tonight', she thought to herself. His outfit complemented his eyes perfectly, and overlal he projected a very suave, poised look that was very attractive. Unfortunately his complete lack of poise at the moment spoiled the effect somewhat. But she still thought that he was very good-looking. 'Actually he's good looking all the time, but tonight he's _beautiful_.'

She smiled as Daniel continued to stare at her, his mouth twitching soundlessly. He looked like he was about to faint. She said, "Good evening, Daniel."

Daniel shook his head to try to get it back in working order. He stammered, "Um, well, hi, Janet."

Janet smiled again. "Thanks for coming, Daniel. Would you like to come in?"

A little voice in Daniel's head screamed, "HELL YES!!!!!!" He however said, "Well, certainly." He followed Janet into her house, his eyes unconsciously roving over her back. He had been right about the cross-hatch pattern on her dress. His eyes strayed lower.

Bad idea.

Oh.

My.

God.

Janet had the nicest ass he'd ever seen on a woman in his entire life. He almost tripped on the floor as he nearly los this footing, staring at Janet's gorgeous posterior. He said nothing, however, and followed her into her living room. Janet motioned at her sofa and said, "Please, Daniel, sit."

He sat. She sat down across from him in a comfy-looking armchair and said, "So, Daniel, have you had any luck with the artifact from P5X-122?"

Daniel, glad for this distraction from staring at Janet's absolutely gorgeous figure. He haltingly began to talk about his research so far on the artifact, prompted by Janet's continued comments on the subject. As he continued to discuss his attempts to decipher it, he found himself becoming more and more comfortable with being in Janet's presence like this. Their talk began to branch outward, covering topics outside SG-1 and the SGC, and began to veer in various unknown directions. They talked about friendship, fashion, family, politics, religion, eating habits, sleeping; Daniel found himself utterly relaxed and in control of himself whilst talking to Janet. Until his stomach rumbled.

He shrugged sheepishly and said, "Sorry. I guess we both lost track of time."

Janet smiled. "I didn't. I've been keeping an eye on the time; it's only 6:45."

Daniel raised his eyebrows in susprise after noticing the clock that Janet pointed out. "Really? It seemed like we'd been talking for hours!"

Janet grinned. "I know; I guess we just both needed to talk."

Daniel shrugged. "OK. What's for dinner, Janet?"

Janet replied, "I made reservations at the new restaurant downtown. They're for 7:00." She cast another look at his outfit and said in a peculiar tone of voice, "It's nice to see that you dressed for the occassion."

Daniel wasn't sure what to make of that; Janet's tone of voice had altered subtly when she had mentioned that little detail. She had sounded........ desirous. Desirous? Was that the right word?

He shrugged inwardly and said, "Great. I'm driving, right?"

"Me," said Janet.

Daniel shook his head. "Uh-uh. I am."

"No, I am," Janet rebutted.

"I am."

"_I_ am."

"__I__ am."

Daniel and Janet stared at each other, trying to outdo one another in obstinacy. As their gazes locked a sudden shock blasted between them like a superpowered lightning strike. They stared at each other, almost unable to move. Slowly they stood up, still staring at one another. They began to move toward one another, very slowly. Soon they were only inches away. They continued to stare at each other for what seemed like hours, before Daniel said in a very quiet, very sensual tone of voice, "I'm driving, Janet. I couldn't let a beautiful woman like you do anything at all on a night like this."

Janet visibly swallowed. Daniel was positively burning with sexiness. His blue eyes were boring into her brown ones, seeming to shoot straight through the back of her skull. God, this man was HOT!!!!

She swallowed again and replied ina quiet tone of voice, "Very well, Daniel. You can drive."

With what HAD to be an audible crash, they broke eye contact. Daniel grabbed his car keys from the nearby table, while Janet retrieved her purse. Together they walked out the door, Daniel pausing while Janet locked up, and together they walked towards Daniel's car, only inches apart.

When they reached Daniel's car, he insisted on opening the passenger's side door for her, saying that "it's the gentlemanly thing to do." Janet, flattered by this new side he was displaying, had complied, easing into the seat and buckling her seatbelt. Daniel had hopped into the driver's seat and was starting the car up. When the engine was running, he turned to Janet, took a moment for a little more Jaw-Dropping Admiration, then said, "Where is this new restaurant, anyway?"

Janet smiled. "I'll show you, Daniel."
