He said the first thing that came to his mind

I’M ALREADY THERE
Janet parked her car in front of her house, got out of it and slammed the car’s door. Her face was filled with grief, and tears flowed freely from her eyes as she sat on the porch of her house. She was devastated, and she couldn’t tell how she had managed to get home after leaving the base.
There was only one thought in her mind.
‘Daniel is dead,’ she thought over and over, as if repeating those words could magically bring him back to life. There was only one truth in this moment. Daniel was everything for her, and Daniel was no more.
It hurt her to think about their love. A love so new, interrupted too soon. With Daniel’s final sacrifice, it was all over. It was all gone. Daniel was dead.
That was the terrible truth.
Suddenly, Janet found herself listening to a song playing somewhere in the distance.
// Wish I was in your arms //
// Lying right there beside you //
‘I wish that the news of your death were just a terrible mistake, or a horrible, cruel joke. But inside me, I know it is not a mistake, and that it is certainly not a joke. It is an unfair reality.’
// But I know that I'll be in your dreams tonight//
‘You’re in my dreams, ever since the first day I met you. That’s the truth, Daniel.’
// And I'll gently kiss your lips //
// Touch you with my fingertips //
She could almost feel Daniel’s lips on her own, his hands caressing her with so much devotion, and so much love. Yes, she wished SO badly to be lost in his arms again, to kiss him back until they were both breathless, and to love him deeply for all time.
But he was gone…
// So turn out the light and close your eyes //
She closed her eyes, and listened
// I'm already there //
‘If you’re here, then answer this, Daniel. How come you left me alone? You left me behind to see what the world without you is like. Let me tell you, it is hell after heaven, Daniel!
‘It is real nightmare…’
// Don't make a sound //
‘Why should I not make a sound? I can’t deny this pain I’m feeling. I want to scream. I want to drown in my tears…‘
// I'm the beat in your heart //
// I'm the moonlight shining down //
// I'm the whisper in the wind //
// And I'll be there 'til the end //
// Can you feel the love that we share? //
With a sob, she remembered their magical moments. The first time they held hands when Cassandra was ill, their first date, their first kiss, and so much more. This love had been their first happiness in such a long time. It had been so good to be together.
Yes, they had shared so much love.
// Oh I'm already there //
// We may be a thousand miles apart //
A thousand miles apart! It was worse than that. He was dead, separated from her. Compared to now, he had never been so far from her. Not even during a mission on the most remote planet.
// But I'll be with you wherever you are //
She gasped, knowing the truth behind this. He would be with her, in her memories. She had only to close her eyes to see his face again, and to hear him telling her comforting words.
// I'm already there //
I’m already there to comfort you and to love you, Janet
// Take a look around //
// I'm the sunshine in your hair //
Remember the way I caressed your hair?
// I'm the shadow on the ground //
Remember when we walked together?
// I'm the whisper in the wind //
Remember when I whispered ‘I love you’ in your ear?
// And I'll be there 'til the end //
Death is not the end for two souls in love.
// Can you feel the love that we share? //
I will always feel this love we shared together. Maybe that is the important thing to remember.
// Oh I'm already there //
// Oh I'm already there //
With a final note, the song ended. Janet realized that her whole body was shaking with emotion. She knew that, in his own way, Daniel was already there for her. She would only have to look around her to feel him in the sun, in the wind, and in the moonlight. The love they shared would accompany her.
