AUTHOR'S NOTES: Yes, I -know- I don't need more series... :) Hope ya enjoy :) The first one is a little short, but the others are longer!

A flash of auburn hair catches my attention, and I automatically turn my head to smile at the owner.

A short woman wearing a lab coat and the typical military get-up hurries past, ignoring my smile...pretty much ignoring everything, actually.

She's muttering something under her breath, I can't quite catch what, and she's soon out of earshot anyway, away off down the corridor, some vital mission on her mind.

I watch her hurry away, bemused as I recall seeing some little birds hurry just like that on a dig down in Egypt. I was fascinated by those birds...shaking my head slightly, I reprimand myself for making such a comparison between those birds and such a pretty lady.

Suddenly she stops, as though aware of my unspoken thoughts, and I'm painfully aware that my gaze still rests upon her as she turns and her eyes meet mine. We remain this way for what seems like many minutes, though it must have only been a few seconds. We silently take in the other, assessing what we see, analysing every little nuance.

I wonder what she sees in me, though I can almost define exactly what I see in her. A strong woman, not likely to take second seat to anyone. Dedicated to anything she puts her mind to...a scientist type, going by her lab coat. She has a fiery defiance that seems almost out of place when you consider her slight figure, but not when you take in the red her auburn hair holds. There's something...more, though, something I can't explain, nor would I want to.

She heads back towards me purposefully, and I suddenly feel ashamed to have been thinking this about a stranger I don't even know the name of, but she just passes me by, not demanding an explanation, nor yelling that I have no right, and I feel an awful sense of relief.

I shouldn't judge a book by its cover...definitely not, but I like what I see...oh well, coffee is in order, definitely. Next time I see her, maybe I'll invite her to have some with me...
