It was the last week of October before she knew it. Daniel was to fly in on October 28, a Monday, which gave Janet the weekend to fix up the guest room. She'd gotten the rest of house somewhat organized, but with work, she had forgotten to do anything with the room he was going to stay in. Oh, it had a bed and dresser and the other "basics," but it might as well have been a hospital room for all it had no decorations. So, she went out and bought a couple prints to put on the wall, and a nicer looking lamp, and new bedclothes. The ones she had were left over from when she had been engaged, in college, and she hated them. They were a reminder of how it had ended, and she didn't even want them anymore. They found themselves in the trash before the day was over.

Finally, Monday rolled around, and she found herself at the airport, waiting for him. She was waiting by the baggage claim, trying not to look at her watch every ten seconds or so. She got fidgety when she nervous, and she was more then nervous, but she didn't quite know why. She had nothing to worry about with Daniel, right? They'd spoken on the phone the night before, when he reconfirmed his flight information with her, and tried to talk her out of meeting him, claiming that it would be fine for him to take a shuttle to the rental place to pick up his car. She'd resisted though, saying it was just as easy to meet him there, and have him follow her back to her house.

She was drawn out of her thoughts by the noise increasing around her. A mob of people swarmed towards her, and she hoped that this was his flight. She managed a glance at the screen before several tall people jostled their way in front of her, and saw that it was indeed the right one. Taking a few steps back, she decided it was probably safer to go stand by the exit. She'd be able to see anyone coming down the escalator, and she wouldn't be run over. Even so, she had trouble seeing with people rushing around her, and she was in the middle of contemplating standing on the chairs when she saw him. He was walking towards the baggage claim, his hair mussed like he had slept on it. She could see that he was looking around, but there was no way he'd be able to see her in the crowd that they were in.

She started to make her way towards him, cursing her height, as always. She was almost through the mass of people when she was pushed from behind. She fell against a man who was turning away from the carousel, and he caught her before she hit the ground. As she regained her balance, she could hear soft laughter. "We have got to stop meeting like this, Dr. Frasier."

She looked up as she recognized the voice, and flushed red. It figures that she would make a fool of herself in front of him. But, his grin was contagious, and she found herself smiling back at him. "But I thoroughly enjoy falling on you, Dr. Jackson," she answered, laughing. "Come on, the car is this way."

She waited for him to walk up the drive, suddenly uncertain if this was a good idea. To late now, she supposed, as she smiled up at him before turning to lead him into the house. "You can leave your bags there," she gestured vaguely toward the stairs. "We can take them up in a bit. Do you want something to eat? Drink? It must have been a long flight and."

He cut her off as she started to babble. "Something to drink would be nice." He'd noticed that she tended to babble in her emails sometimes, when topics edged toward the personal. He grinned as he remembered the long, and by that he meant LONG email that had culminated in her offering to him a room at her house for the week.

Janet glanced at him oddly as he grinned, then opened the fridge. "I have." not a lot, she grimaced, "water, a bottle of wine, and orange juice. I forgot to run to the store last night."

"Water is fine. No ice, please." She nodded and turned to the sink, pulling a glass out of the cabinet.

"I'll run up there later, unless there's anything you need right away. I wasn't sure if you would want to eat here or out somewhere tonight, so I'll need to pick up food if you want to eat here. I know it's no where near dinner time, but if you're hungry I do have plenty of snack food." As she turned to give him the glass, she saw him grinning at her, and she blushed faintly.

"I'm sorry, I don't usually talk this much except when I'm nervous, and we've known each other for months and."

He took the glass from her and set it aside, then pressed two fingers against her mouth, affectively quieting her. "It's all right, Janet. And no, you don't have any reason to be nervous. Besides, I'm sure your cats will protect you if you needed it."

"What?" she asked, tilting her head questioningly at his words, well aware that his fingers were still against her lips. He glanced at the floor, and she followed his gaze. Sure enough, Ephiny and Tigger were sitting in front of her feet, growling quietly. Ephiny lifted a paw as they watched and took a swipe at his shoes. He lowered his hand as she apologized, "Oh, I'm sorry about that. They are usually very nice, I don't know what has gotten into them." She bent down and picked them both up, letting Tigger curl himself over her shoulder.

"They've never been around strangers, have they?" She shook her head. "Then, they're probably just being protective. You are theirs, they don't know yet that I am a friend." He held up his hand a few inches from Ephiny's nose. "Perhaps, soon, they will," he said quietly, looking at her out of the corner of his eye.

They ended up going out to eat that night, at a Chinese restaurant not far from the grocery store. They stopped at the Food Giant on the way back home, which ended up being a major shopping event and not the brief stop that she had imagined. It had been fun shopping with him; she had forgotten what it was like shopping for more then just her self, and found herself wincing internally every once in awhile at how much of a loner she had turned into. They had had a brief argument at the cash register, with Daniel wanting to pay, since most what they were getting would be for him. He ended up paying, reasoning that it was the least he could do since she was letting him stay for a few days. He said it so sweetly that she didn't know how to argue with that.

It was even more disconcerting when he helped her put the groceries away. Her fiancé had never done that, even when they were living together, and to her it felt more intimate then having him visit should have. And Tigger had decided that he liked Daniel, having jumped up on his lap the moment he sat down at the table.
