‘What do I want?’
A frustrated face stares out upon the landscape.
‘What a stupid question! I want the one I love to love me back! To hold
me, touch me, speak soft words of love ‘till I’m dizzy with longing and
desire.’
Pillows fly across the room, an angry body letting out impotent rage.
‘But I can’t even say the words aloud myself! Three LITTLE WORDS! I LOVE
YOU! Coward!’
Eyes burn with unshed tears.
‘So many things keep us apart, my own fear overall!’
Fingers run through hair.
“Why?”
‘Why? Afraid of rejection, scorn, ridicule . . . . afraid of that damned
‘What if . . .’ That protective shell I wear to keep people from coming too
close, now seems a straight jacket, keeping me from what I want, what I
need.’
Shoulders slump in despair.
‘Someday, maybe someday I’ll have the strength to say ‘To HELL with it all’
and do what I need to do. I hope so. Before it’s too late. Before someone
else beats me to the punch.’
