Tick tick
Come on move faster.
Tick tick.
Why is this stupid clock so slow? All I want to do is go home after my eight-hour shift; eight hours cooped up underground, I need a break! With Cassie out for the night, Sam and me are going to have a girls night in. My theory is that with good company and a lot of alcohol I will be able to forget my absolutely-ridiculous-teenage- like-crush on a certain drop-dead-gorgeous-but-totally-clueless-about- it-archaeologist; make that a HELL of a lot of alcohol.
Tick tick.
I'm keeping one eye on the clock and one on the door, waiting for Dr Warner to replace me...speaking of which, there he is!
`Evening doctor, looks pretty quiet in here.'
`Quiet as a mouse', I reply smiling politely back as I leave the infirmary. I'm in no mood for small talk.
Now there's the search for Sam that could go one of either ways (a) she's packed up and ready to leave or (b) she's bent over her computer totally engrossed in some alien technology. I'm rooting for the first one but I'm not holding out much hope.
I knock and enter her lab and sure enough, she's at her computer; she didn't even hear me knock.
`Sam?' I ask a little impatiently.
Her head shoots up, glancing at me, then the clock.
`Are you ready?' I ask hopefully. The look that passes across her face isn't encouraging.
`Damn! Sorry Janet I forgot the time.' I glare at her, she gulps, `just give me 5 minutes to give this to Siler.'
She grabs a piece of paper and runs out of the room before I have the chance to say anything, great! I look around her office when suddenly her computer beeps impatiently.
I debate whether I care; I mean it's likely just some alien science equations that will make no sense to me, right? As I debate this, the computer beeps quickly again, then again.
Curiosity gets the better of me -heck I'm only human. As I approach the screen, I'm surprised to see she's in a private chat room with two other people.
My heart skips a beat, there's no mistaking who `D_Jackson' but who's `the_monkey_tormentor', who appears content to fill the screen with `x's?
After the current screen is completely filled with row after row of `x's, Danny answers the question for me:
D_Jackson: Jack will you piss off?
I smile and shake my head at the screen, I should have guessed!
The_monkey_tormentor: Nope, havin fun here!
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
D_Jackson: It's not funny!
The_monkey_tormentor: sure it is, aint it Sammie?
Opps, I guess that's my cue; unfortunately, I have no idea what they're talking about. So what's a girl to do?
Carters_smarter: sorry guys I got distracted by Janet Well it's the truth ain't it? I hit enter and wait for their reply; it doesn't take long, the replies are practically simultaneous.
The_monkey_tormentor: LOL!
D_Jackson: Wot? u didn't tell her n e thing did u?
If I wasn't interested before, I am now!
The_monkey_tormentor: gee Danny I can c ur blush from here. Danny and the doc, sitting in a tree k-i-s-s-i-n-g.
I swallow hard. Has the colonel just gone insane or could he mean...
D_Jackson: Jack PISS off! Sam u there? tell me u said nothing.
Carters_smarter: about what
I decide to play it dumb.
The_monkey_tormentor: about Danny loving the doc!!!
My heart's pounding.
D_Jackson: please stop kidding Sam, its bad enough with Jack
The_monkey_tormentor: hey!
I can feel a goofy grin appearing on my face as a warm sensation spreads through my body. Danny likes me? Me? Plain old doctor Fraiser? How is this possible?
I'm suddenly very glad for the nearby chair; sinking into it gratefully, I wonder how I'm going to respond.
Carters_smarter: I didnt tell her a thing!
Which technically is true. I can't believe she didn't tell me! I'm certainly going to have a little chat with one Samantha Carter, but right now there's more pressing issues to deal with.
D_Jackson: phew! thnx
Carters_smarter: no probs
The_monkey_tormentor: ah...hate 2 interupt the party but Carter - how cum u just walked past my door?
Uh ho! Busted, better think fast. I'm a doctor, I'm use to dealing with life or death situations, with having to make important decisions on the spot, think on my feet...
D_Jackson: wot? J r u jokin?
The_monkey_tormentor: nope
D_Jackson: who r u?
No doubt that's addressed to me and I still can't think of anything to say. Well what's left to say other than the truth?
Carters_smarter: Janet
I sit back and wait for their reactions; I'm not disappointed.
The_monkey_tormentor: LOL! classic! oh id love to hav seen Ds face- classic Kodak moment.
Now it's my turn to be annoyed by a certain colonel.
Carters_smarter: piss off
The_monkey_tormentor: hey! R u 4gettin who has COLONEL on their jacket?
Carters_smarter: r u 4gettin who has big needles in their jacket?
The_monkey_tormentor: oops
It works every time, however I don't take the time to bask in my victory; I'm more worried about the lack of respond from a certain linguist.
Carters_smarter: Daniel?
No respond. `Come on Daniel where are you?' I mutter as I send the question again.
`Right here' I freeze, suddenly unsure. Slowly I turn and see him entering Sam's lab. He looks nervous and slightly out of breath, which is a given seeing that he's run from his lab to here within a matter of minutes. Damn he looks good!
`Hey' I say get up off Sam's chair, aware that he's steadily coming towards me.
`Hey yourself' he replies shyly still advancing towards me.
I take a deep breath, not believing this is happening. I watch as he rapidly closes the distance between us, helped along by that fact that I'm also seem to be taking involuntary steps towards him.
I can feel my heart beating wildly when we finally meet, there in the middle of Sam's lab. I look up nervously and gaze into his eyes, unable to look away from their intense scrutiny. I want to ask him if he's sure, if he's thought it all though. There's got to be more easy relationships than an air force doctor with a teenage daughter.
But I don't need to voice my fears, he's seen them and even acknowledged them. He's sure. He knows the price of what he wants...he wants me with all my baggage.
I watch as he slowly lowers his head and I reach up to find his lips. The first touch is heavenly just perfect; it's soft and gentle conveying all he feels for me. Suddenly it's not enough, I press my lips to his again and bring one hand to hold his head and he quickly responds by enclosing me in his arms.
We stay like this for a long while, wrapped in each other's embrace, purposely ignoring the insistent beeping coming from the computer; Jack needs to learn to be more patient and less nosy anyway.
THE END!
