Janet Fraiser walked into the briefing room and spotted Daniel Jackson sitting at the table. "So, what's going on?" she asked.

"Not a clue." Daniel replied with a shrug. "Sam just said to be here."

"That's what I got too." Janet said. She felt a wave of nausea, so she quickly took a seat. " I guess we'll find out when they show up."

Daniel was about to ask if she was okay, but as soon as she'd spoken Jack O'Neil, Samantha Carter, Teal'c and General Hammond entered the room. They all took seats around the table, and everyone looked to Sam and Jack expectantly.

They looked at each other slightly bemused before Jack finally spoke up.

"Well guys…we asked you all to come here because you're our friends, and we have some news…" He trailed off and smiled at Sam.

"Just tell us all ready." Daniel broke in excitedly. Janet shot him a reproving look, and he calmed slightly.

Jack continued. "I know Sam and I have only been married for three months and all, but…Sam's pregnant."

Dead silence filled the room followed by chaos. General Hammond, Daniel, and Teal'c offered congratulations after their shock wore off some.

The chatter of voices was interrupted by Janet's commanding voice.

"Wait a minute." She started with a serious frown. "Are you sure? You can't be pregnant. There's such a small chance. I mean the shot is almost infallible and…"She trailed off as Sam broke in.

"Yeah, I know, but I was supposed to get my shot right before the wedding and in all the chaos and planning," she grinned at Jack, "we forgot."

A thousand thoughts flashed through Janet's mind. 'It couldn't be.'

'But you haven't exactly been feeling your best lately either.' Another voice taunted.

"Oh…my…god." Janet gasped and fled the room.

"What was that all about?" Jack asked.

"I'm not sure," Sam replied thoughtfully. She exchanged a meaningful look with Daniel and headed after her friend.

Janet frantically searched through the shelves in a cabinet in the infirmary. She knew it was here somewhere. She kept one just in case. Her fingers closed around the box just as Sam entered the room.

"Janet, what's going on?" Sam asked with concern. She saw the box in her hand. It was a pregnancy test.

"What! You don't believe me?" Sam laughed. "I did three different tests just to be sure."

Janet blushed. "Um…it's not for you, Sam."

"Well who then?"

"Sam, we get those shots together." Janet stated emphatically, sure that Sam would understand her meaning.

"So?" Sam looked confused.

Janet sighed and spelled it out. "Sam, *you* didn't get your shot, so *I* didn't get mine." She stared at Sam and saw comprehension flood her face.

"Really?!" Sam asked with surprise.

"Well, I was helping with the wedding, and you know, Daniel and I…" She didn't continue.

"Yeah." Sam said. "But I didn't know you were *that* serious."

Janet nodded and looked down at the box in her hands.

"So, you're…" Sam looked uncertain.

"I'm not sure, but I think so."

"But what are the chances that both of us would be pregnant?"

"So small you wouldn't believe it if I told you," Janet muttered. They stared at each other in uncomfortable silence.

Janet sighed. "Will you do me a favor, Sam?"

"Sure, Janet. What?"

"Stand guard outside the door while I do this." Janet requested, indicating the test in her hands. "Don't say anything to Daniel yet, please."

"Okay, Janet." Sam agreed. "How long 'til you know?"

Janet glanced at the back of the box. "Ten minutes."

Sam squeezed her hand and tried to grin. "See you in ten then."

Janet smiled weakly and disappeared into the bathroom.

Janet looked at her watch and took a deep breath. She looked down at the piece of plastic she held tightly in her hands. The moment of truth.

A plus sign. She was pregnant.

'Okay. Now what?' She thought. Followed quickly by, 'What am I going to tell Daniel?"

* * * * *

"Daniel, now is not the time." Sam insisted firmly. She placed herself more squarely in the doorway so he couldn't get through.

"Sam," Daniel pleaded, "I need to see her."

"Be patient, Daniel. She'll tell you what's wro…what's going on when she's ready." Sam choked on her words, and Daniel's agitation increased.

Jack was standing right behind Daniel. He shot Sam a questioning glance.

'Not now.' She mouthed back.

She heard a door open behind her and turned. Janet emerged looking stunned.

"Oh my." Sam breathed.

"Janet!" Daniel shoved gently past Sam and took Janet in his arms. "What's going on?"

Janet glanced up at Daniel nervously. She squared her shoulder and sighed.

Sam took a quick assessment of the situation and dragged Jack from the room. As she closed the door behind her she heard, "Um… Daniel, we need to talk."

***************

"Okay Jan." Daniel looked at her with concern. "What is it?"

"Well… Daniel…" she paused. "I don't exactly know how to tell you this, but…"

"Janet, are you okay?" Daniel was looking more concerned by the second, and Janet realized she was going to have to just tell him before he went crazy.

"Daniel, I'm pregnant."

Daniel's mouth fell open. His expression went from stunned to confused. "Pregnant? How did that happen? …I mean I know how it happened, but what…I mean how…I mean…how did this happen?"

A nervous smile crossed Janet's face. "Well, you know how Sam got pregnant because she missed her shot?"

Daniel nodded his head, dazed.

"Well, I was supposed to get my shot with her, and I was thinking about it and we were just getting involved then and…" Now, she was rambling. She drew a calming breath and started over. "I didn't get my shot. We got together. I'm pregnant…Surprise."

'Surprise!' She though. 'That was dumb. Real smooth, Janet.'

Daniel continued to stare at her.

Janet tried to decipher his reaction. Was he happy? Upset? Just shocked? She couldn't tell.

"Aren't you going to say something?"

"Um.. okay." Daniel shook his head a bit and tried to think, "What are we going to do?"

"Well, I don't know. I just found out myself. I was thinking we could talk about it together."

"Okay. How 'bout I come over about six. That'll give us time to get used to the idea. Um, I have to go now. Something I need to do. See you at six." Daniel kissed her cheek and walked out of the room, still looking slightly dazed.

Janet sank to the floor. She still didn't know what to make of his reaction. He hadn't seemed very pleased. She started to cry. 'Oh who was she kidding! He wants to wait until tonight to talk. He hates me I know it.'

*****************

Sam casually walked by the infirmary. She had dropped Jack off at his office and come back to see how Janet was doing with Daniel. 'Obviously not well.' She thought as she heard crying coming from Janet's office.

Thankfully, the infirmary was sparsely populated. Not a nurse in sight. 'At least no one heard her,' Sam thought. 'She doesn't need any questions right now.'

She walked into Janet's office and saw Janet crumpled on the floor.

"Janet! What's wrong?"

She looked up through her tears and Sam starting down at her in concern. "Daniel hates me, Sam." She started to cry again in earnest.

Sam sank down next to Janet and drew her into a hug. "I'm sure that Daniel doesn't hate you."

"Yes, he does."

"Well what happened." Sam asked. She was sure that Janet was wrong and just emotional. She could tell by the way that Daniel looked at Janet that what he felt for the doctor was far from hate.

**************

Daniel aimlessly walked the corridors of the SGC in a daze. 'Pregnant… a baby…wow!'

He practically ran down an airman, but didn't even pause. He was completely lost in his thoughts.

'Janet's pregnant.. I'm going to be a dad.' A wide grin spread across his face at the thought. His step became lighter and passing airmen commented to one another about more strange things going on with SG-1. Daniel was oblivious to it all.

Suddenly, he stopped dead in his tracks as another thought struck him. 'Wait a second. I'm going to be a dad, and I don't even know what Janet thinks about this.' He pondered this for a while in the middle of the deserted corridor before deciding that he'd find out when he went over to Janet's that night.

He was almost back at his lab when he was sidetracked by Jack. More like accosted. Jack dragged him down the hall towards his office.

Jack had stayed in his office until Sam was out of sight and then set out to find Daniel. He knew he could get Daniel to tell him what was going on.

He was beginning to think his search wouldn't turn up anything when he saw Daniel walking aimlessly down the hall and grabbed him.

Daniel gave him a concerned look as they reached Jack's door. "Umm, Jack are you okay?"

Jack grinned and replied with mock innocence replied, "Oh, I thought you and I should have a little chat.

"Why?"

"Well, Danny-boy. I want to know what's been going on in your life. How you've been. You know."

Daniel glared at him with exasperation. "You want to know what's going on with Janet and me."

"Exactly. I always knew you were an intelligent man." Jack grinned endearingly, then grew more serious. "No really. Are you guys all right?"

"I'm not so sure Jack." Daniel's face became worried. "Could I talk to you about something?"

"Of course. My door is always open." He motioned Daniel in. "Except of course when it's closed." He added as he followed.

"Right." Daniel couldn't help but smile at Jack's ridiculous statement.

***************

"You knocked up the Doc!"

Daniel looked annoyed. "Could you perhaps yell that a little louder? I don't think the airman guarding the front gate heard you."

"Sorry, Daniel. But you and the Doc?" Jack raised an eyebrow. "Really?"

"Yes Jack. Really. Why is that so hard to imagine?" Daniel looked offended.

Jack quickly reassured him. "It's not that it's hard. I just never thought you'd act on it."

Then Jack asked the question that Daniel wanted to talk about. "So, what are you guys going to do?"

Daniel sat down in one of the chairs and put his head in his hands. "I don't know."

"I don't know how she feels. I don't know what we're going to do. Hell, I don't even know how I feel…. I think I'm happy. I mean I'm thrilled about being a father, and I love Janet, I just don't know what we're…." His voice trailed off. "I love Janet." He looked shocked.

Jack smirked. "Of course you do. I thought that was obvious."

"You mean you haven't told her?"

Daniel shook his head. "No. I mean, I liked her a lot, and I love Cassie, and I knew that I loved being with Janet, but …I really love her. I don't know what I'd do without her. I have to tell her…I'll tell her tonight."

"You're going to see her tonight?" Jack looked to Daniel for confirmation.

"Yes. We're going to talk about the baby and what we're going to do."

Jack felt a sick feeling in his stomach. "Um… Daniel, what exactly did you and Janet say to each other when she told you about the baby."

Daniel looked perplexed. "Well, I was so shocked…I guess she told me and I didn't know what to say, so she asked me. I said what are we going to do. She said she didn't know. I said I'd come over tonight to talk about it….Oh shit!" Daniel and Jack shared a "damn" look.

"That's about what I'd say."

"I completely blew this didn't I?" Daniel asked with despair.

"Why don't I go find Sam. Maybe she can fix this." Jack suggested.

"Stay here."

Daniel nodded and flopped back into the chair. His head hung back and he moaned.

Jack ran, hoping he could find Sam quickly.

***************

Jack had found Sam exactly where he had figured he would: trying to console Janet.

He cleared his throat and gave a strained smile when the two women looked up. "Sam, could I…" he gestured to just outside the door. "For a sec."

Sam looked to Janet first, who nodded and swiped ineffectually at the tears on her cheeks.

Sam stepped out past Jack into the infirmary, and he softly closed Janet's door behind them. She looked around to insure a semi-private setting and then went off on him. "Jack, what the hell is Daniel thinking? Does he realize what he's doing to Janet? I mean…" She threw her hands up in the air and took a deep breath to continue her tirade.

Jack saw his chance and ran with it. "Sam," he interrupted. "Bear with me here a second." He gave her a pleading look, and she dropped her hands to her sides with a sigh. He continued, "Daniel's just as shocked and screwed up right now as Janet."

He held up his hand to stop her as he saw her protest forming. "Maybe not quite as screwed up, but pretty damn close." He ran a hand through his hair as he went on. "He knows he didn't handle the situation well, but he was shocked and to be quite honest, he's a little confused as to how Janet feels about the whole thing. And how she expects him to feel about it."

Sam murmured, "He's not the only one."

Jack rushed on. "Daniel knows he completely botched the whole deal, but he doesn't know what to do now."

Jack looked expectantly at Sam. She smirked. "So now you want me to fix it right?" She crossed her arms akimbo over her chest and tried to look angry.

Jack moved in closer to her and grasped her elbows. "Well, you know your 'Ms. Fix-It routine' really turns me on," he whispered huskily in her ear.

Sam smiled as Jack trailed his lips down the side of her neck, but then turned serious and pushed him back. "But really. What do you expect me to do about this?"

Jack shrugged. "I guess can you go talk to Daniel--maybe reassure him a little--and get him over here? He's in my office." Jack jerked his thumb towards the door.

Sam nodded slowly in agreement. "But what about Janet?"

"Oh, I'll keep the Doc' company."

Sam eyed him warily. "Be nice, Jack. She's kind of fragile right now." She lowered her voice and said, "Don't tell her I said that!"

Jack lazily saluted her and the two parted to care for their respective charges.

***************

Jack cautiously peered around the door into Janet's office. To his relief, she was seated at her desk rather than on the floor where she and Sam had been earlier. He didn't think his knees would have been cut out for that.

"So…" Jack let his voice trail off when her realized he didn't know quite what to say.

Janet looked up startled. "Where's Sam?"

"Well." Jack wasn't sure if he should tell her, not knowing what her reaction would be, but decided that the truth was probably best. "She went to talk to Daniel."

Jack winced and waited for her reaction. And waited. She just sat there as if the idea was beyond her understanding.

"Janet?" Jack asked carefully, worried about her lack of response.

That one word broke the careful control Janet had over her emotions. She threw herself into Jack's arms and sobbed.

Jack awkwardly patted her back and prayed that Sam would hurry back with Daniel.

***************

Sam opened the door to Jack's office to find a very distraught Daniel pacing the length of the room and muttering to himself. Suddenly, all the recriminations she had planned to voice for Janet's sake melted away. The poor man was obviously as beside himself as Janet was.

Sam cleared her throat lightly, and he jumped at the sound.

"Oh thank God!" he exclaimed and came over to clutch desperately at her arms.

"Oh god, Sam. I completely screwed up," he babbled, pain filling his eyes. "I mean, I don't have a clue what happened to me." He resumed pacing, alternately wringing and flinging his hands around as he spoke. "I was so surprised. Shocked, really. I hadn't even thought that," he paused. "I mean, I don't even know what Janet thinks about all this."

He turned back to face Sam, distress evident in all of his features. "What should I do?"

Sam took pity on her friend and kept it simple. "You and Janet need to talk. NOW." Daniel nodded in response. "Janet is still in her office. Let's go."

Sam took his arm and led him from the room.

***************

Janet's tears were finally spent, and she pulled herself out of Jack's arms, cheeks flushed.

"I'm so sorry! I don't know what's wrong with me. I mean, I do but…" she trailed off helplessly.

Jack chuckled. "Don't worry about it. Sara was the same way. Just took me a little by surprise there at first."

Janet sat back down at her desk and played with the pen from her blotter. "What do you think I should do, Jack?"

Jack looked up at her with a perplexed expression. "You mean about Daniel?"

Janet attempted a smile. "Of course about Daniel. I mean, he doesn't seem that thrilled and--"

Jack cut her off with an incredulous laugh. "Not thrilled? Are you kidding? I've never seen the man so ecstatic, even over his rocks."

Janet looked puzzled, "But he seemed so…"

She was cut off by a knock at the door.

***************

General Hammond and Teal'c sat across from each other in Hammond's office.

"You wished to speak to me, General Hammond." Teal'c stated.

"Yes, son. Do you know what the hell is going on here, Teal'c?"

"I am uncertain," Teal'c replied impassively.

Hammond shook his head. "Well, find out and let me know please."

Teal'c inclined his head. "As you wish, General Hammond."
